Yesterday's Man

Pixel characters replace inkblots and wit; yesterday’s
man choses sex and chemistry, and love turns to a lost
connection. Oh, there’ll be no future with tomorrow’s girl.
Yesterday’s man changes the radio station and disintegrates –
you could change the future, but it’s just not meant to be.

Why, the wireless love seems so strong, why? Yesterday’s
man checks his instant messenger accounts – he has a sense
of urgency. He sends virtual roses to people he pretends to know –
he sends romance down fibre-optic cables; under the ocean it goes
but there’s no answer at the other end.

Railroad connections missed, family problems – there’s a
limit to how many excuses he’ll believe. Why, he has the sense
to see the solution; yesterday’s man raises his fists – he’d
do anything for love and he’s about to show it. Oh, there’s no
future for tomorrow’s girl, but she pretends not to care.

The passing pedestrians are just far enough away to ignore
blatant abuse, they pass by but they don’t care enough to intervene.
Indifference is love – well, as far as he can see. He’s finally found a home:
tomorrow is a far better place. She’s finally found a home; all of yesterday’s
memories are a much better place to be.
