A Simple Word

It’s such a simple word
It’s one of the first words that children learn to say
Just two letters
No.
It’s fairly easy to understand
So I don’t know why he has such a hard time understanding it
I say no
He responds with come on
No
Come on
Fine
He can’t accept

No I don’t want to
But it’ll be fun
I don’t feel like it
Why
As if I need a better justification to explain my feelings
As if just no isn’t good enough
My feelings aren’t valid so he doesn’t listen
He doesn’t deem “I just don’t want to” as a good enough reason
So he does what he wants anyways
I give up
Let it happen
Because why am I saying no
What good real reason do I have anyway
I don’t know but no just feels appropriate
It’s not fun or enjoyable when your doing something you don’t feel like doing at the moment
It doesn’t magically make everything better
And I forget about the no

There’s no respect for me
For my feelings
For my decisions
No listening
It’s a simple word
Easy to understand
I don’t know why you don’t
No.
