Walking in the Night

Walking in the night,
Surrounded in darkness.
You walk in the forest,
A forest abundant with trees.

You only have a flashlight,
An indispensable guide.
You keep walking,
On your peaceful excursion.

Crunch! goes a twig,
As you break it underneath your step.
You just keep walking,
For it's no reason to stop.

You look into the sky,
It's so still and peaceful.
Darkened by night,
Glittered with bright stars.

Hoot! goes an owl,
You listen to its wings flap as it flies past you.
You stay still,
You just want to relax and listen.

You sit on a slimy, moss-covered rock,
And just listen to the sounds of night.
You hear a toad croaking rapidly,
And a cricket chirping softly.

All of a sudden,
Out of no where,
You hear a large animal in the distance,
Making its own nightly excursion.

You listen more carefully,
Ready to leave.
You grab your backpack,
Ready to swing it over your tired, achy back.

You hear a desolate, lonely howl,
Of a wolf.
You run as fast as you possibly can,
But trip on a knife-sharp rock.

Your body just freezes up,
Too frightened to move a decimeter.
A sharp, ice-cold chill,
Shoots down your back.

The wolf walks past,
Uninterested in you.
He lets you go,
Unharmed.
