My Fallen Angel

My Fallen Angel

My fallen angel comes to me
As I sleep,
Quietly.
He watches over
Like no one can,
In my dreams,
Love-tainted wings.

He whispers my name
As he lays down,
Holding me tight.
Demons can’t penetrate
His dark light
Try as they might.

His wings,
Black with regret
And hate,
Are torn
Tattered
But protective.
I can’t help
But to feel
As this was my fault
That his sacrifice
To save me
From my own dark desires
Has caused him to fall.

He says
“It’s my own desires,
Which caused my wings
To blacken.
For if I hadn’t fallen in love
I wouldn’t have fallen from grace.”
His sad smile
Breaks my heart,
For I too have fallen.
I have fallen for my angel.

It’s sad that for now
It seems
We can never be…
