Voices

Voices heard echoing down the hall.
I hear a voice sounding through the wall.
Voices, louder, and louder, and louder as they approach.
Remaining calm, my spirit coaxed.
Voices, loud and booming.
Closer and closer they get.
Someone sings songs in my head.
Voices surround me, but no one is there.
Voices, but no one anywhere.
Voices, angelic and soft.
Voices, hard and rough.
How can I hear you sing?
No one is there, not even a thing.
Now only one voice I hear.
It is whom it belongs to I fear.
He calls me softly as he hides.
Then he appears by my side.
Voices, drifting.
Into a faint I’m sifting.
