For Laural's Daddy (So Long and Goodnight)

(A good friend of mine, Laural, lost her father Jan. 20, 2007 to a sudden heartattack. I went to the hospital and saw her that night just a couple hours later. I can't ever remember seeing a real dead body before then. It meant a lot to her though that we came that night and is doing so much better than anyone could ever have expected. I wrote this on the 21st.)

For Laural's Daddy (So Long and Goodnight)

You’ve only died and gone
Not for all that long
I’m left sitting here alone
Wondering if I am wrong

But it doesn’t matter now
That I know for sure
I’ll find out soon enough
For now I’ll have the cure

If you want to know
The cure to death is life
Like warm hugs still free
Or a cold and sharpened knife

Matters not to me
I’m standing here alive
And I thank my lucky stars
For the reasons I still fight

You never had a choice
In this brash decision
That’s the way it aught to be
So your love had no deception
