The Closing Walls

Why is my life being thrown into this
Suffocating box,
Where the walls are slowly closing
In on me,
Getting smaller, tighter, scarier,
Churning out
Fears of claustrophobia, building
Never-ending pressure
On a young, delicate and innocent mind.

Why must I be cast out upon the
High seas
Left to drift, left to make my own way
In a world
Getting ever-more harsher and
Deadly.
Left to fend for myself against
The monsters
That dwell both outside and inside.

Why must I fear the coming independence
Of my next birthday,
And watch the walls close in on
Me.
