The Descent

You sat there so amused, a smile hinting at your lips, your eyes,
I didn’t get the joke.
You didn’t seem to realise the way I fell,
Further and further down,
Gravity is a bitch.

We laughed, together, you and me, me and you,
The endless meaningless banter of two foolish fools,
You pushed me off my chair,
I bruised my bum.
I fell some more.

Stealing.
A bad word for a fun game.
You stole my fries, you stole my heart.
We laughed at such a trivial game,
But the reward was fatal.

Your face haunts me as I stand and write this, watching the people below.
Each dimple, imperfection, perfect to me,
However hard I have fallen in the past,
I will fall for the final time.
Watch me fly.
