The Fire.

The leaves, they scream,
As fingers tear
At their greeny flesh.

The monster howls,
The monster tears,
Through gnarled boughs of oak.

Foot steps thunder, echo
As the beast
Ravages the land.

Lights, they flicker.
From the sky,
Revealing faces of shadow.

The fire flickers,
The fire crumbles,
Into ashes once more.

Her light’s fading,
Her heat’s draining,
Into darnkess once more.

The rain, in torrents,
Soaks the ground,
The world's a dark gray.

The rain is pouring,
The water’s splashing,
The fire hisses and dies.

The woman, she waits,
Amongst the mud and grass
For her supposed demise.

They say it’s hopeless,
They say she’s worthless,
They say she’s going to die.

The fire flickers,
The fire crumbles,
Into ashes once more.

Her light’s fading,
Her heat’s draining,
Into darnkess once more.

She believes them,
No matter how loud
Her heart is screaming “no”.

She knows it’s hopeless,
She knows she’s worthless,
And thinks she deserves to die.

The reason’s uncertain,
The cause unknown,
For the hatred that they harbour.

A simple girl.
An innocent girl.
Who they say should die.

The fire flickers,
The fire crumbles,
Into ashes once more.

Her light’s fading,
Her heat’s draining,
Into darnkess once more.

But, confidence building,
Defiance is growing,
The girl wants to tell them they’re wrong.

She’s done no evil,
Has a heart of gold,
And beauty beyond compare.

Cursed because of goodness,
Jealousy revealed,
All because she’s talented.

Because she outshines them,
Because they want to be her,
Yet are scared to let their secrets known.

The fire flickers,
The fire crumbles,
Into ashes once more.

Her light’s rekindled,
Her fire’s burning,
They will bring her down no more.
