New Year, Old Feelings

I made some fun plans
With my friends to party.
Streamers, drinks, and parents sans.
Have lots of fun and be hearty.
A week or so before today
Under the mistletoe with John.
But now I’m keeping him at bay.
To another’s house, across the lawn.
I was invited. I’m a special guest.
“The only one I really want to see.”
But standing here, my mind’s a pest.
I only want one kiss at midnight,
And I want it from only him.
Hoping and praying that it just might.
My heavy heart, spilling over the brim.
11:56 comes rolling right on around,
He walks over to me; head feels light.
We stand for a moment without a sound.
Holds my hand; blushes. What a sight!
Small talk until our eyes meet.
Ticking of the clock draws reality near.
Our lips so close, I can taste his heat.
Three, two, one. Happy New Year.
