Monster.

I once heard monsters were real;
That lied underneath your bed.
They pull at your hair to leave you despaired.
Oh, no. They lie in your hearts instead.

I was told they come out each night
And take you from your dreams
They strip you down and tear you right down
From your sides on the seams.

I was told to keep on the light
And I would stay out of harm
But now I watch in fright on this night
This creature within the length of my arm.

I was told they eat little girls and boys
Who never do what they're told.
They destroy your toys and kill your joys.
Yet, this beast stands before me, now old.

I was told to run for help
When I needed someone to say it was okay.
But I can't find any comfort now
This monster has ruined my days.

I was told they hate your laughter.
Yet, they laugh when you speak.
And, they laugh when you scream.
But never does this one laugh; just weeps.

I was told that monsters had big teeth
They were extremely ugly and mean.
That they were such a terrible sight to see.
And Oh, I completely agree.

Funny how it looks just like me...
