30 Minute Lovers

So you meet
In the hall
The end of the day
All tired
All weary
And not in the best way.

We’re laughing
We’re talking
And we hardly know names
One minute
You’re strangers
The next you’ll play games.

And at first
They’re normal
And none of us cares
But then
You go off
And so start the stares.

It’s cosy
That corner
It’s behind a big screen
Your voices
We hear them
Towards them we lean.

It’s abnormal
This talking
The words that you use
Your tone
Quickly drops
And your fingers now fuse.

We’re talking
We’re guessing
At the end of the hall
It’s absurd
It’s so hard
To make sense of it all.

Still unsure
But still watching
You both slide closer still
I’ve never
Seen people
Cave in to such will.

You return
We ask questions
You refuse to reply
We assume
It’s all normal
Once more you catch her eye

She leaves
You then follow
Not a beat did you miss
Suddenly
Without warning
You’ve both started to kiss.

30 minutes
I timed it
Was all that it took
For both
Boy and girl
Too fall to love’s hook.

As you walk off
We wonder
Just how was it done?
We struggle
We’re fighting
But for you, the war’s won.
