Go By

In this diner booth I sit
A glass of water I always get
Whispered words of condemnation
Unable to fulfill their expectations
Others, they would only watch
As, in the table, I cut a notch
No man or girl would ever pry
As I sat and watched the world go by

No one saw the looks I’d cast
No one could understand
Why I’d sit as others passed
Living their lives, hand in hand

So I continue to sit alone
Studying all the teenage drones
Outcast for wanting to be myself
Instead of a doll upon a shelf
Another girl with perfect hair
Another cut in the table there
To be like them, I’d never try
I’ll just sit and watch the world go by
