Avoiding Numbness

They say
You never know what you've got until it's gone

What I had was the opportunity to feel

Gone, poof it went!

Was in hand once
My fingers tightly clutching it
No hole to slip out
No tricks up it's sleeve
No way to escape .....
My hold.

When approached by others my guard stayed up
If not even stronger than if I was alone
But the sly words of one cracked the lock to my feelings
And let them free
I had not grip
No command
I lost.....
My hold.

Then.
When no clouds could be seen with naked eye
And the sun was a shining
And the nature was praising
And my smile was amazing

Rejection dove through the sky
Knocking me off my feet
And hitting me by surprise

Instead.
I tried holding my feeling with two hands
'Cause I hadn't had strength like I did before
He came to me
And ripped them out of my hands
Until I had no more

If I could I would have a picture of them
To hold secretly in my locket
Or maybe I should have kept them sacred
And hidden them in my pocket.
