To Be Haunted

You don't know the meaning of being haunted
It's just a tragically beautiful notion to you
You don't know the feeling of being haunted
But I, I do

Haunting is a betrayal of the mind
Reminding you of every thing you never wanted to know
Burning slowly behind closed eyes
Oh, this haunting is a possession of the soul!
To be haunted is to be taunted
By something that can't be left behind
You forgive, and you pray, and you grieve
But you're never granted a peaceful night
Because your nightmares can't ever leave

It's closing your eyes
And trying to find
A place that's safe from the truth
But reality
Knows where to find me
And it drains me of my youth

Haunting is not mere loneliness
It's not about feeling cold
Haunting is more than emptiness
It's being filled with pain to the toes
Haunting is a gnawing paranoia
That can't be put on the shelf
The voices scream, "Now we've got ya!"
Whenever I'm by myself

It's closing your eyes
And trying to find
A place that's safe from the truth
But reality
Knows where to find me
And it drains me of my youth

You don't know the meaning of being haunted
To you it's just a beautiful tragedy
You've never felt the pierce of being haunted
You've only heard of it through poetry
But I, I know
I know
I know

To be haunted
Is to never
Find your escape
To be haunted
Is to always
Be so afraid
