Ooo, thank you. I will definitely check those out.

And the movie isn't even the same story. It really just has the same name and that's it. But the BBC version was okay. Although the quality on Youtube kind of sucked. Either way, thanks! I'll look those up. :D

I recently read this short story in my Women's Literature class at my college. It definitely was something else and it really opens you up to how the lifestyle was in that time. I enjoyed your review of the movie and story. I was, and still am, unsure about watching the movie since the story was so well written. We'll see how that turns out.
I think that another story you might enjoy, that was also adapted into a movie, is "Where are you going, Where have you been" by Joyce Carol Oats. The movie is called "Smooth Talk." I personally haven't seen it, but the short story creeped me out pretty good. Let me know what you think!

It's terrible! I promise! Go for the BBC version if anything. Of course you can watch it and judge for yourself. But as a fan, I don't think you'll like it.

I had no idea there was a film adaptation! The Yellow Wallpaper is one of my favorite short stories ever.

This was a great comparison and a very well written article. What a bummer though that the movie flopped :/

It's meant to be a horror story, but it's really boring and doesn't delve into the psychological aspect as well as it could have. If you're still interested I would go with the version the BBC came up with in 1989. That one actually shows more of the psychological creepness the original author intended. You can find that version on Youtube, but I have to warn you the sound quality isn't all that great.

Hello. I read your review and I have never seen this movie. I now want to watch it. But I have a question. MY psychology the other day was talking about how we should find a good movie to watch as long as we could relate it to psychology. After reading this I considered it and looked it up but I can only find trailers for the newest one which make it seem like a horror story. Now my question haha, what genre exactly is the movie? Because the way you described it makes it seem kind of calm but the trailers say otherwise XD Oh and do you think I could relate it to psychology in any way shape or form ?XD

@ i am rock and roll.
Oh yeah! It was really fascinating reading about her. She apparently was suffering from postpartum depression as well and her doctor prescribed "rest" therapy. Then after she published The Yellow Wallpaper she sent him a copy in the hopes that he would stop. Unfortunately I think he continued it for quite a long time.

I don't recommend it. If anything I'd watch the BBC version.

I read this just a few weeks ago in my Creative Writing class and I adored it. I thought it was a fabulous story and was just overall quite likable.

We also read an article that the author had written afterwords as to why she wrote and she wrote it to keep people from going insane so that doctors and the likes knew what could happen if they simply locked people in rooms and demanded they do nothing but rest when they are ill like that. She said she experienced something similarly herself. I thought that was really interesting.

I read The Yellow Wallpaper last year for my AP English class and thought it was pretty good. Although I'd probably never see a movie based on it, the way you described that movie... I can already tell it's bad and would not watch it. Lol.

I think this is a great article :)
