    Born mute, Natsumi is the younger of the Urameshi twins. Due to her being born mute, she became very quiet and a bit timid. But despite that, Natsumi has a playful side to her and she willingly goes to any lengths to try and communicate her feelings to those around her. Natsumi shares a close bond with her twin brother, Yusuke, and their childhood friend, Keiko Yukimura. Once Yusuke is revived, Natsumi gains the ability to speak and she becomes a bit chattier and more outgoing, but still retains her timid and shy mannerisms. She then becomes a Spirit Detective alongside Yusuke, her powers of empathy and telekinetic powers being granted upon her brother's revival.

    Childhood friend of the Urameshi twins, Keiko has appears to have a quick temper but she has a kind heart and is prone to worrying about Yusuke and Natsumi. She is the only one to stand up for the twins. She often argues with Yusuke and acts as a big sister figure to Natsumi. Beneath her nagging habits is a motherly and caring personality. Keiko is the one to bring Yusuke back with the kiss of life. And although she often denies, she harbors feelings for Yusuke.

    Natsumi's older twin brother and Keiko's other childhood friend and crush. Yusuke acts tough and is quite mischevious, and has a knack for getting into trouble. Despite having a reputation for being a juvenile delinquent, he has a kind heart deep down. Yusuke is one of the few people who can actually sign to communicate with Natsumi. After saving a kid from a car accident and dying, Yusuke is brought back to life as a Spirit Detective. And although he's reluctant at first, he and Natsumi eventually agree to protect the world evil spirits and demons.
