I really believe that Thalia isn't using Brian as a replacement for the one she went to high school with and the same goes with Brian.
He is in love with Thalia and he is always there to protect her from harm, a fine example when she cut herself while shaving and Brian thought she was attacked.
I think Thalia got scared that she won't be able to return to her own world where vampires don't exist and Brian is in a famous band with his best friends.
