Your writing is good, so definitely continue! If some people don't like your writing then that's their problem - they don't have to read it. If anything, I would suggest a beta reader, just to fix up some paragraphing and other things. Other than that, it's good. I think, something that people would criticise is your of narration of the story and how you convey Alex's thoughts. But it works, you just need to work on how you differ the narration; actions and his thoughts.

the thing about writing is, don't do it for others. that's the only thing you could ever do wrong, is writing or not simply because others are telling you not to. if writing is what makes you happy, and you enjoy doing it, fuck what everyone else has to say. your opinion is the only one that matters, and if you let everyone else tell you what or how to do something, you're not living your life the right way. that is my opinion, and now i am gone, friend, goodbye.
