He already had a fucked up life where he was neglected, abused, and secluded, so naturally his love map was all fucked up in the beginning. It's hard for the little boy to separate love from abuse. So when he's creepy or mean to Jack he really doesn't realize that it's him being cruel. He doesn't have empathy for all of these reason, and he doesn't really understand emotions. The only way for him to deal with that in the beginning was to be fearful of everything while attaching himself to Alex whom was the only one who was actually nice to him, but after seeing what humans did to his father his brain was practically fried. He didn't know who he should attach and love to anymore because it seemed like he could trust no one. He's really just relying on instinct and is in "survival mode" now more or less. Whatever presents itself as a threat to him, he's going to get rid of (or attempt to) it. He's detached himself from love and affection and now has no family, no cares, and no love.

I hope this helps somewhat clear up his mental state sense I feel like never going to explain it in the story lol.
