‹ Prequel: Everything I'm Not

Love's Requiem

Closer

“Are you sure it’s safe for you to be going to a show when you’re almost three months pregnant?” Alex asked me later that night once we were checked in to our hotel.

“It’s not like I’m going to pit, and I’ll make sure I’m not in an area where I’m likely to get smashed” I assured him.

“Okay, but the second I think its trouble we’re out of there.” He warned me.

“You worry too much.” I assured him giving him a sloppy kiss.

“You try dating you, it’s a very worrying position. It’s like being secretary of defense during World War 2.”

“I keep people on their-“ I began to say but had to run to the bathroom for my usual vomiting.

“Toes?” Alex suggested as he popped his head in to the bathroom.

“Ugh, I hate being pregnant.” I groaned as I changed in to a pair of baggy. “My boobs feel all mushy and they hurt, and my stomach hates me. Why do you hate me I try feeding you good stuff?” I exclaimed looking down at my stomach.

“Are you talking to the baby or your stomach?”

“Both!” I mumbled looking for a shirt to change in to.

“I’m going to go find Jack, I’ll be up in a bit and then we’ll go to the Aquarium.” Alex told me kissing the top of my head as he headed out of the room.

It was sort of warm so I decided on just wearing my Where the wild things are tee shirt, and a pair of flip-flops. By the time I finished tying my hair up in a ponytail, Alex was back and ready to leave.

“Dugong was a pokemon wasn’t it?” I asked Alex as I pressed my forehead against the glass of the habitat,

“How do you remember pokemon?”

“Bitch I was a pokemon master.”

“I’m not asking.” He chuckled as he took my hand.

The aquarium was amazing, the last time we were in Sydney I think I was sick so I wasn’t able to go with the guys so it was my first time. Despite Alex not letting me try to steal a shark we both had a great day there.

“I want a pet shark.” I told Alex as we left later that day.

“I’m pretty sure that’s illegal almost everywhere.” He told me taking my hand.

“I should check to see if is in Croatia. I don’t think it is.” I paused. “I mean, no one in Croatia that I know has one so maybe I’ve got a shot.” I told him as we walked.

“Bella,” Alex said causing me to look up at him.

“What’s up?”

He looked like he was thinking about something, and then in a split second he opened his mouth.

“Will you marry me?” He blurted out, as I felt my stomach flip.

“No,” I told him take a step back, shaking my head.

I was not ready to mess this up again; right now him and I were perfect we didn’t need a title. This wasn’t a job this was two people in love, and it was better being left at what it was.

“What?” He exclaimed with a confused look, “You’re serious?” He pressed as confused turned to upset.

All I could do was just nod my head.

“Why?”

“Because whenever you and I become official or give a title to what it is we have everything goes to shit. Look how happy we are right now? You and I are meant to be like Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed, happily unmarried.” I told him, as we both took a seat on a nearby bench.

“Bella the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do ever since I got close to you two years ago was to eventually get you in a white dress in a church or fuck wherever and have you swear that you’re mine for the rest of our lives. I want to start a family with you, we already have that part taken care of.” He placed his hand over my stomach. “Please Isabella Sladovic will you be my wife?” He said getting on one knee in front of me.

Okay, maybe I am being unreasonable saying no. There’s only one way to put my mind at ease about saying yes.

“One condition,” I began, “Lisa is out of the picture.”

“Done.” He told me giving me his grin. “So?”

“I’d love to be your wife.” I told him as he put the ring on my finger giving me a kiss. “I love
you, Alex.” I told him as he pulled away.

“I love you too.” He smiled putting me down on the ground again.

“For the record,” He said as we walked back to the hotel, “I wanted to do this in June.”

“You were going to propose that night?” I asked him.

“As soon as we got back to my house.”

“I’m an asshole.” I mumbled with a frown.

“My fiancé’s an asshole, I’m a lucky guy.” He smiled.

“I went from being a dick to an asshole, I’m not really sure how I should be feeling about that.” I told him making him smile.
