Blissful Ignorance: In a Vampire's World

Lyrica

The boys only stayed with me until I stopped crying, then I locked myself in the bedroom and they decided it was best to just go home. They took the next flight out. I didn’t see them off. I couldn’t stand to be hugged by the two most important men in my life after I found out they’ve been lying to me the entire time.

School started on Monday. My classes are tougher than the ones at my old school, but they’re nothing I can’t handle. Today is Friday, and many of the students are going into the nearest town tonight to go clubbing, shopping, and partying. Kyle and Marcus have tried many times to persuade me to go to a club with them, but I just wasn't’t up to it. Though, I must admit, I had a hard time telling them no. They’ve tried to do this hypnotizing thing and made me say yes, but I told them that was cheating and they dropped it…for two seconds.

“Kris! Come on! It’ll be fun! Besides, sitting in this room all day and night isn’t good for you.” Kyle was practically bent in half with his arms around my waist and his head on my shoulder, trying one last time to get me to go with him and Marcus into town.

“No Kyle! But,” I unwrapped his arms, and made him stand up straight before placing my hand under his chin as he looked at me, “I promise I’ll come out some other time. I just…I don’t feel like going out this weekend.” I smiled and got on my tip-toes to kiss his forehead. “Now you and Marcus go have fun.”

Kyle sighed and lurched forward with disappointment. “Ok.” He and Marcus walked out of the room.

I waited a second after they left before I walked over to the couch with a soft blanket and flipped through the channels.

Knock knock

“Come in!” I shouted from the couch before stuffing more popcorn in my mouth, my eyes glued to the TV.

In walked Damien. He and I weren’t exactly the best of friends now. Actually, things haven’t changed at all between us. “Hey. Where’s Kyle and Marcus?” He asked nonchalantly.

“They left already.” I put more popcorn in my mouth, my eyes refusing to leave the television.

Damien must’ve heard a the moaning coming from the TV speakers because he walked over behind the couch. “What in the hell are you watching?”

“Porn.” I responded casually.

“Why are you watching porn?” Damien gazed down at me like I was some sort of loon.

“Because no one else was around and there’s nothing else to watch.” I glanced up at him, then sighed and turned the channel to a cartoon. “What are you just standing there for? I told you the boys aren’t here.” I stood up and shut off the TV.

“Don’t get pissy with me you slutty pervert.” Damien smirked, obviously teasing me.

“Slutty? Hun if I was being a slut I’d do something like this,” I said, smirking as I walked over to him then pressed my body against his, raised one leg so my knee was up against his side, and wrapped one arm around his neck, giving him a flirty smile. “Hey big boy, why don’t you and I,” I turned myself around and put both feet on the ground, then ground my butt against his hips, “get out of here?” I stopped and walked away from him, almost crying when I saw his frustrated mug. He was turned on and he couldn’t do anything about it.

“You really are a whore.” He stomped out of the room, leaving me rolling on the floor laughing. Once I got tired of it though, I got up and walked to the bedroom. I sighed as I sat on my bed, bored as hell. My eyes glanced around the room until they found my closet with its door barely open, but sticking out of that opening was my favorite black dress. No…I shouldn’t…not on my own… But it was just too tempting. I threw on a bit of make up, my black gothic-looking yet simple dress with a black rose pinned to my hip, and slipped into my boots that had buckles going all the way up the front. I glanced at myself in the mirror before I grabbed my jacket and headed out the door.

It took me about an hour to walk to the outskirts of town. It was amazing. It looked like a simple town but with tall buildings, a shopping strip, and on the outskirts of the town were clubs and bars. I stuck my hands in my jacket pockets as a cold breeze blew by, making my hair move out of my face. I walked through nearly the entire town, passing up clubs with booming techno music, or rap music, and was about to head home when I heard the wonderful sound of a screamer and a guitar. I followed the sound until I came to the side of a tall building. There were concrete steps that went six feet down into the ground, then came to a door with a lit up sign reading Demonia’s Rock House. I nearly screamed with excitement! This was my kind of hang out. I walked inside and, happy to say, I turned a few heads. There was a band playing some rock music and jumping all over the place. Where I came in was the very back of the place. If I put my back up against the back wall, the bar was on my right, and the stage was up ahead of me. There were actually two bars. The other one was up against this back wall.

I stepped up to the bar and took off my jacket, then sat on a stool.

“What’ll it be, hun?” A tall black-haired guy, probably mid twenties and stunning brown eyes walked up to me. He was obviously the bartender.

“Umm…Bud Light. Just gimme the bottle.” I smiled and folded my arms on the bar.

He gave me a flirtatious smile and gave me a bottle of Bud. “Happy to see there’s some girls who don’t drink those little foo-foo drinks. What’s your name, babe?”

I was honestly surprised he didn't ask me how old I was, but I just smirked and twirled the bottle neck in my fingers. “The name’s Kris.” I held out my hand to him, and he took it softly.

“My name’s Josh. Let me know if there’s anything else you need.” He glanced at my cleavage then walked down the bar to help out a few other guys. I couldn’t help but watch his tight ass walk off. He was so hott! Besides, I don’t consider me and Jake boyfriend and girlfriend anymore. I haven’t even seen him since that night we kissed.

“Hey. You new around here?” A deep male voice broke through my thoughts, and I glanced to my left to see a tall, tan boy with snake bites, and black hair with the bangs in front of one of his green eyes. I tell you he had a smile that could make any girl faint.

“Yeah.” I smiled and fixed my eyes back down on my beer bottle, then started to chug it. I always did that with my first beer of the night.

“Woah woah woah. Calm down. It’s not going anywhere.” The guy put his hand over mine and got me to lower the bottle. I couldn’t help but notice his unusual temperature.

I put the bottle on the bar then looked to see how much damage I did. Only a quarter of the bottle gone. How pathetic. “What are you doing around here?” I asked curiously, glancing up at him through my lashes.

“What are you talking about?” He laughed like I was crazy.

I turned my stool to face him, my feet not even touching the ground since I was so short. I gazed into his eyes, raising a brow to show I wasn’t playing games.

“Ah.” He smiled and nodded with understanding. “You know about vamps and wolves, huh?” He sat down and waved down Josh to bring him a beer like mine.

“Yeah.” I put one leg over the other and leaned back into my stool, keeping my beer in my right hand. “Just found out on Saturday. I go to Hillsworth.”

His eyes went wide and he snapped his head my way. “What the fuck? You serious?”

I smirked. “No joke.”

“What the hell is a human doing in an all vamp school?” He said it a little too loud if you ask me, making me glance around the place. “Don’t worry. Everyone here is either a wolf or a vampire. You’re the only human.”

“Oh that’s comforting.” I said sarcastically. “Umm…It’s a long story.” I turned back to face the bar.

“I got time.” He smiled reassuringly and twirled my stood so I would face him.

I couldn’t help but smile back at the gorgeous boy in front of me, so I began telling my story.

“Wow. That’s pretty messed up baby girl.” He just finished his second soda.

“Yeah.” I finished my second beer.

“For them to lie to you like that…that’s crazy.” He looked me in the eye, obviously feeling bad for me.

“No worries love. I’m a strong girl. I’ll live.” I smiled sweetly.

He opened his mouth to speak again, but before he could another boy came up to him.

“Yo Rob, we got a problem, man.”

“I’m busy, Q, what’s up?” Rob asked, obviously irritated.

“Mike says he’s not gonna play tonight. He’s sloshed and irate.” Q seemed frantic.

“We can’t play if we don’t have a guitar player.” Rob hopped off his stool and glanced around for someone.

“Get off me man!” A stumbling idiot walked towards us, heading for the back door, and he had another guy following him.

“Mike come on! We need you!” A tall blond guy said, following the drunk.

“Fuck it! You none give me credit and let me never do a sdolo!” The brown-haired drunk babbled, but was stopped when Rob stepped in his path.

“Woah, come on Mike. We do too give you credit!”

“No you don’t! Leave me alone!” He stumbled and fell, but scrambled to his feet and took off.

“Shit! What’re we going to do now?” The blond asked Rob. “We’re up next!”

I glanced to the stage to see the band that was just playing was starting to pack up.

“Hey Rob.” I hopped off my bar stool and walked over to tap his shoulder.

“Give me a sec hun.” He said, totally blowing me off.

“No, Rob, I’m trying-”

“Look, I got a real problem right now, go get another beer or something.” He was irritated, I can understand that, but he wouldn’t be if he just would’ve let me talk!

So I let him talk with his buddies while I made my way to the stage. I hopped up on there, glad the crowd was too engulfed in their own conversations to notice me. “Hey guys.” I smiled at the band members who were packing up.

“You’re not supposed to be up here.” The drummer walked up to me.

“Oh I was just seeing if you boys could do me a favor. See those guys arguing over there?” I pointed to Rob and his friends, then glanced back at the drummer, bassist, keyboard guy, and guitarist who had gathered around me.

“Yeah.”

“Well their guitarist just walked out on them, and I kinda wanted to do an audition for them. Could you guys help me out?” I gave them a sweet smile.

“You play the guitar?” The bassist raised a brow and looked me up and down.

“Is it that surprising?” I gave them a now nervous smile.

“Yeah. That’s hot, girl. Tell us what you wanna play.” The guitarist smiled at me.

“Lithium by Evanescence. I know it’s kinda diet rock and what not but I’m not a professional singer and since your singer walked off I’m gonna have to do it and that song is the only one I sing decently.” I ran the sentences together, and it just made them laugh.

“Hey, diet rock, metal, punk rock, it’s all music so it’s all good. Just grab the guitar. Terrance, you don’t mind, right?” The drummer looked at the guitarist who shook his head and smiled.

“Nah. I don’t mind. I’ll work the amps and stuff.”

“Thanks so much guys.” I smiled, then grabbed the guitar while the other guys got to their instruments.

I walked up to the microphone, guitar strap over my shoulder with the guitar in front of me. “Hey, people.” I said into the mic, watching every head turn to look at me, even Rob and his friends who looked utterly shocked. “Sorry to interrupt. Anyway, this is kinda my audition. See the guitarist for the band who’s coming up next, Mike I think his name is, just walked out on his band.” I heard grumbling. “Yeah I know. That’s pretty shitty. So I’m auditioning to be the replacement guitarist, so treat me kindly my lovelies. I’ve never played in front of a crowd before.” I smiled when I heard howling from a couple girls and guys.

“Woo! You go girl!”

“Hell yeah!” I heard from the crowd.

“Alright then.” I smiled, then glanced back at the keyboard guy who started playing. I took a deep breath, and sang.

“Lithium, don't want to lock me up inside.
Lithium, don't want to forget how it feels without...
Lithium, I want to stay in love with my sorrow.
Oh but God I want to let it go.

That’s when my guitaring came in, and man was I on fire. I got goose bumps.

Come to bed, don't make me sleep alone.
Couldn't hide the emptiness, you let it show.
Never wanted it to be so cold.
Just didn't drink enough to say you love me.

I can't hold on to me,
Wonder what's wrong with me.

Lithium, don't want to lock me up inside.
Lithium, don't want to forget how it feels without...
Lithium, I want to stay in love with my sorrow.
Oh...

Don't want to let it lay me down this time.
Drown my will to fly.
Here in the darkness I know myself.
Can't break free until I let it go.
Let me go.

Darling, I forgive you after all.
anything is better than to be alone.
And in the end I guess I had to fall.
Always find my place among the ashes.

I can't hold on to me,
Wonder what's wrong with me.

Lithium, don't want to lock me up inside.
Lithium, don't want to forget how it feels without...
Lithium, I want to stay in love with my sorrow.
Oh I'm gonna let it go.”

I sung my heart out. The feeling I got from it left me in a daze. My heart was racing. It was as if the music was in my veins, flowing to my fingers. I was making the music and it was fantastic! I came out of my thoughts when I heard the crowd cheering me on as if I was Axel Rose from Guns ‘N’ Roses or something! As if I was a big star! I smiled and looked back at the obviously shocked Rob, and spoke into the mic, “So. Do I get to play for you or what?”

“LET HER PLAY! LET HER PLAY! LET HER PLAY!” The crowd cheered, raising their fists in the air. Even the guys who were playing the instruments on stage with me were cheering.

Rob and his friends made their way to the stage. Rob hopped up first and came right up to me, wrapped his arm around my waist, pulled me into him and came down on me with a rough, passionate kiss. It was over way too soon as he pulled back and released me. “You just saved our asses.” He said happily. “I don’t think I caught your name.” He held out his hand towards me.

I smiled and shook his hand. “Lyrica. Just call me Lyrica.”

It can only go up from here. I'm trying to move quickly with this story without ruining it. I know it's been pretty slow so far, but it's slowly starting to go up. You'll see. ^^
