Learning to Fall

“Jade! JADE MICHELLE! It’s time to get up! Now!”
I sighed as I ran a brush through my short black hair. I smiled at the new red highlights I’d gotten done two nights ago. My mom was a nervous wreck about me starting high school in Leipzig, but I couldn’t understand why. Every time we moved I went through the same thing.

“Jade, humor your mom and hurry,” my dad said softly from outside my room.

“I will dad. Just have to get dressed. Tell her I’ll be two minutes tops,” I said with a smile. My dad is a major in the army so we move around a lot. He’d been told that we would be living in Germany until I was done with high school.

“Okay sweetie. Just get down before I leave so I can say goodbye.”

“Will do SIR!” I said saluting the door.

“At ease soldier,” he said laughing.

I pulled on my To Write Love On Her Arms t-shirt, my black skinny jeans, and my Skeleanimals sweatshirt with the cat ears on the hood that my best friend got me for my birthday.

“Finally!” my mom said angrily as I walked into the kitchen. I grabbed a Pop Tart off the counter and she smacked my hand, giving me a bagel. “You’re going to miss the bus sweetie!”

“She’s got ten minutes Lena. She’ll be fine,” my dad said as he took my forsaken Pop Tart.

"You don't know that Tomas! The bus could be early!"

"And I shall leave before my food hits someones face," I said stealing my Pop Tart back from my dad before giving him a kiss and my half eaten bagel.

"Have fun Jade!" my mom shouted after me.

"It's high school mom, how fun can it be?" I grumbled.
