Surrender Your Heart

13

For the next week and a half that Jordan stayed with Kylie, the two spent a lot of time together. It was usually just Kylie and Jordan, but they brought Matt with them a few times, and a few other times, it was all the guys. Kylie had sensed a spark between Jack and Jordan, but her cousin never acted on it.

Unfortunately, it was now time for Jordan to leave. Kylie and Matt were driving her to the airport where her flight was to leave in a few hours. “I’m going to miss you sweetie!” Jordan exclaimed as her and Kylie hugged in the airport with Matt not far behind.

“I’ll miss you too! You need to visit more. Or better yet, just move out here.”

Jordan laughed and pulled back. “You know I would; but you could move to the Big Apple too.” As she said this, she glanced at Matt.

Kylie smiled. She knew what her cousin was getting at. Matt lived on the east coast; why couldn’t she? Truth be told, that thought never really left Kylie’s mind. What was she going to do when Matt had to go back to Baltimore? She wasn’t sure; she tried not to think about it. “Yeah, yeah. Just come visit more, ‘kay?”

The two hugged one last time and then Jordan turned to Matt. She hugged him and said quietly into his ear, “Don’t screw this up, and don’t you dare hurt her. I’ll hurt you if you do. I’m close enough that I can do that okay?”

Matt chuckled. “I won’t, Jord. Don’t worry okay?”

Jordan pulled back. She gave him a pointed look and said, “Just a reminder, don’t do it.”

Matt nodded. “I won’t. Have a good flight, and don’t be a stranger. Baltimore isn’t that far from New York City you know.”

She smiled and nodded. “I won’t. See you guys!” As she walked away, Jordan couldn’t help but wonder if that invitation to Baltimore would have to be used under the wrong circumstances, like causing Matt physical pain if he hurt her cousin. She continued on walking towards her gate, looking over her shoulder once only to find Matt and Kylie hand in hand. She smiled and really hoped she wasn’t going to have to hurt Matt any time soon.

It had been a few days since Jordan left. The guys were getting ready to finish up with Squire and head out to Malibu. Kylie wasn’t too worried. She was trying to be optimistic. Matt and her were out walking on the boardwalk one afternoon after getting lunch when the subject came up. “So, we head up to Malibu in a few days.”

Kylie nodded. “Lucky jerks… working with Butch Walker. I’m sort of jealous,” she smirked, kissing Matt’s cheek.

Matt nodded. “Yeah, about that… what are we going to do? Are you going to come up to Malibu with us? Are we just going to drop this and pretend it didn’t happen? What?”

Kylie, shocked and curious as to where this was coming from said, “Matt, what are you talking about? Drop this? You mean like, break up?”

He shrugged. “You can’t break up if you were never together in the first place.”

That did it for Kylie. She stopped walking but didn’t let go of Matt’s hand, therefore pulling him to a stop also. “Excuse me?” she asked; the hurt was evident in her voice.

“It’s just… we never really said if we were together or not, so I’m assuming you don’t want that so…” Matt trailed off, unsure of his argument anymore. This is all Alex’s fault, he thought to himself. If he hadn’t brought up any doubts, I wouldn’t be having them right now. Ass. To Kylie, he turned to face her and grabbed both her hands. “You never really said I was your boyfriend. Which I get, I mean, I am leaving sometime. So I never really know what you want. So, I guess I’m asking… what do you want Ky?”

You. Just because I didn’t say you were my boyfriend or never asked you to be my boyfriend doesn’t mean I don’t want it. I just… I don’t know, didn’t want to ask. I figured it might be implied, and that way I wouldn’t make an ass out of myself by asking.” Kylie started blushing profusely, and Matt noticed.

He grinned and pushed a piece of hair off of her face. “You’re blushing.”

She rolled her eyes and blushed harder.

“You’re cute when you’re blush,” he told her, leaning in to give her a quick kiss.

She laughed. “Thanks, glad my embarrassment serves you well. So Mr. Matthew Flyzik, are you my boyfriend?”

“Yes Miss Kylie Abbott, I am.” Kylie smiled and grabbed his hand and the two continued walking. Matt couldn’t help but wonder how long he was going to be Kylie’s boyfriend for, considering that he was leaving sometime. He shook the thought away and decided he’d talk to the guys about what he should do later.

A few days later, and the guys were riding up to Malibu. You could feel the air of excitement at the thought of working with Butch Walker. Jack was the first to voice this. “We’re working with Butch Fucking Walker, dude! BUTCH FUCKING WALKER!” he yelled, causing Matt to cringe.

“Yeah Jack, I get it; now shut up. You’re being way too obnoxious for a Monday morning.”

Jack stuck out his tongue and turned around from his place in the front seat to talk to Alex. “Why isn’t everyone else as excited as me?”

Alex shrugged, but didn’t bother to look up from his phone. “Hey Matt, is Kylie coming up today?”

He nodded and smiled. “Yeah she is; in fact, I’m going to leave early from the studio. I have something planned for us.”

“Aw, Matty, you shouldn’t have!!” Jack exclaimed throwing his arms around the tour manager.

Matt rolled his eyes and pushed him off. “For Kylie, ass.”

Jack smirked. “Yeah sure, you know you wish it was me.”

Just to shut him up, Matt agreed. While he started singing along to the song that came on the radio, Rian piped up. “What are you going to do?”

“For me to know and you to find out,” he said mischievously. In truth, he just didn’t want to tell the guys. They would give him shit for being romantic or whatever; at least Jack would. He already dealt with enough of Jack this morning. He didn’t want to do it the whole ride to Malibu and for the rest of the day after that.

The car ride ended rather quickly it seemed. The guys all climbed out of the car and walked up to the house/studio/whatever you wanted to call it. Matt rang the doorbell, unsure of what else to do. Soon the front door opened, and there stood Butch Walker in all his glory.
“Welcome, guys. Ready to make some music?”

***

It didn’t take long for the guys and Butch to dive right in to the music. Almost immediately, he and Alex were talking about a chord that wasn’t right, or a note that was too high for the verse. Matt just sat back and watched. He felt like a proud parent. Of course, the proud parent feeling wore off rather quick when Jack started bugging him.

“Let’s tour the place!” he exclaimed.

Matt shook his head and continued checking his email.

“Come on!”

He shook his head again, this time checking his phone for any missed calls or messages.
“You’re no fun.”

The dark haired boy shrugged and dialed Kylie’s number. She answered on the second ring. “I’m on my way now, babe. I should be there in a half hour at the very most.”

Matt smiled. “Good, that’s what I like to hear.”

Kylie smiled on the other end of the line. What’s that line? Falling deeper in love with each passing moment, or something like that? she thought to herself. It’s funny how true that is right now. She honestly couldn’t deny how she was feeling towards Matt and how her feelings were growing with each passing day. It would be a lie if she did. It was evident to everyone around them that something… strong was growing between them, something that would be hard to break, and something that would hurt if it did break.

When Kylie got to her final destination, she texted Matt and let him know she was there. Inside, he asked the guys of he could bolt for a little while and they let him. They were still wrapped up in working with Butch, and it was clear Matt wasn’t needed right now. He met Kylie outside, walking over to her car door to lean in and give her a kiss. “Can we take my car?” he asked her, still centimeters away from her face.

She nodded and the two walked over to his car, where she climbed into the passenger seat. “So, where are we headed?” she asked him as she put her seat belt on.

He smiled and pulled out of the driveway. “The beach; there’s a surprise waiting for you.”

Kylie giggled. “I love surprises!”

After a little while, the two arrived at a small beach where there was virtually no one around. Kylie smiled and quickly climbed out of the car, running towards the beach. Matt laughed at her and grabbed the surprise out of the backseat. He followed her down to the sand where he set the surprise down and walked over to where she stood, jeans rolled up and feet immersed in the water.

He wrapped his arms around her torso and hugged her, laying his chin on her shoulder. She was staring out at the water, admiring it, even though it was nothing new. Matt kissed her neck, causing her to lean her head further back to allow him better access to her sensitive skin. The warm early February sun was heating her face, along with a blush creeping up her neck from being out in public and doing what she was doing with Matt.
Soon she turned her body around so she was facing him and planted a kiss on his lips. It was slow and easy; there was nothing rushing them and it was just… one of those kisses that deserved to end on its own, not due to the people separating or an interruption or something like that. Of course, it did, and Kylie smiled as Matt pulled back ever so slightly. “Come on, I have a surprise for you remember?”

Kylie nodded and let him drag her up to where the surprise was sitting. He leaned down and took a big blanket out of it, laying it down on the sand first and then setting the basket on top of the unfolded blanket. She smiled at him and said, “What kind of trick do you have up your sleeve here Mr. Flyzik?”

He grinned, his dimples showing. “No trick, just a surprise. You said you love surprises and I remember you telling me once that you always wanted to have a picnic so here we are having a picnic.”

Kylie laughed and took a seat on the blanket, patting the empty spot next to her. Matt sat down too and opened up the basket. “We have fluffernutter sandwiches and—”

Kylie stopped him before he could continue. “Wait a minute, what?”

He cocked his head to the side slightly. “What do you mean what?”

“Fluffernutter? What the hell’s that?”

Matt made a shocked noise and exclaimed, “You don’t know what a fluffernutter is?” When Kylie shook her head, his eyes widened as he said, “You poor deprived child! A fluffernutter is a peanut butter and marshmallow fluff sandwich. It’s basically the best thing ever if made properly.”

Kylie narrowed her eyes. “Properly?”

“You have to have the proper peanut butter to fluff ratio going, or else you’re fucked.”

Kylie couldn’t help it; she burst into laughter. She fell backwards onto the blanket and started cracking up. When she recovered, she sat back up and said, “My boyfriend, the world’s biggest dork.”

He smiled. He liked when she called him her boyfriend. “Shut up; wait until you taste this thing and then we’ll see whose laughing.”

He took out the two sandwiches, the two bottles of XXX Vitamin Water, and the assortment of movie theater candy he had grabbed, and then handed over a sandwich and a drink. “Here, try it.”

Kylie took a hesitant bite of the sandwich and chewed. After a few minutes, she took another bite and smiled. “Okay yeah, you’re right. This is way past delicious and crossing into unknown territory.” Matt laughed and started eating his sandwich too.

When the two finished, they lay side by side on the blanket, bodies intertwined while they munched on the random assortment of candy. Kylie popped a Sour Patch Kid in her mouth and poked Matt’s side. “So this was a pretty wonderful surprise, you know that?”

He grinned like the Cheshire cat. “Yeah I know; I’m like Mr. Romantic or something.”

Kylie laughed and rolled her eyes. Matt looked down at her and smiled. The way the sun was reflecting off of her made her look even more gorgeous than usual, so he leaned down and said softly, “I’m going to kiss you. Don’t attack me and think I’m trying to steal your candy or anything.”

Kylie giggled and nodded, lifting her head slightly to meet his lips. Matt propped himself up on his elbows and kissed her on the lips and then things quickly progressed and heated up slightly. He trailed down to her neck next. It was her most sensitive spot, and he knew it too. She arched her back slightly to try and lean her head back as far as possible to give him the most access. Her hands roamed over his shirt and then under it, tugging at the hem of it for no reason. He trailed kisses back up to her cheek and then over to her earlobe which he kissed and nipped before finally giving her the satisfaction of a full kiss on the lips. Her hands traveled up to his hair and tugged it gently while his hands roamed down her sides, giving her goose bumps whenever he’d slip them under the hem of her pink shirt and come in contact with her warm skin. Their tongues danced and when a moan escaped her lips, Matt pulled away. They had to stop, or else they would cross into that point of no return.

Kylie frowned as Matt got off of her, rolling to the side. He grabbed her hand and started tracing a shape on her palm. “Hey,” she said, trying to get close to him again. “Why did we stop?”

Matt smiled at her. “Because we were crossing into dangerous territory that I’m not so sure we should cross into on a beach in broad daylight.”

Kylie laughed. He was right about that; it was the middle of the afternoon, and they couldn’t do what they were headed for here. But she also couldn’t push away the feeling that she didn’t care to stop doing what they were doing, even if it meant doing it on a beach. That worried her a little bit, but she shoved all thoughts aside and snuggled up to Matt’s side; she decided to enjoy the rest of the time she had with him and not worry anymore. Worrying did nothing for her but upset her and make her think about the future, which quite frankly, wasn’t something she felt like dwelling on right now, or ever for that matter.
