When Deirdre was three, she developed a rare disease that nearly destroyed her vocal chords. She can no longer make any sounds as a human.

Even though she cannot speak as a human, she was lucky enough to still be able to make a few sounds as a wolf. But, when she does, her vocal chords strain, and her throat tightens, making it extremely difficult to breathe.
