Sequel: The Truth Hurts Worse

Nobody Puts Baby In The Corner

Chapter 20

The first month was finally over. It seemed like it took forever, too. They were finishing up in the Midwest before going east to the coast. After this was done, the boys were taking a break before they started up again. They had only two more weeks left for the tour and the boys were getting restless. For two weeks, that was 14 days and 8 of those days were performances.

They had made back up to Chicago, having a couple days off before heading to the east coast. Andy and Joe were staying at their homes while Pete was crashing at Luci’s place with her and Katy – though Luci still lived at her grandparent’s place. Patrick had gone home to his family, though he was planning on staying with Luci as well.

Her ‘apartment’ was nothing more than a converted garage. She and Katy had separate rooms and a living space, along with a bathroom, but they used the kitchen in the main house. Pete had every intention on sleeping on her couch, but Rose had forced him to stay in the guest room in the house. He couldn’t say no to her, since she was holding a large skillet when he was informed of this.

Patrick showed up the day after they came home. Lawrence had answered the door, and was damned shocked to see him.

“Well!” He started, leaning on his crutches. “I didn’t think I’d be seeing you again, Patrick. Are you here to see Pete, or Luci?” He gestured for the boy to come in, smirking a bit as he saw how nervous Patrick was. “They’re in the den, watching some movie.”

“I’m doing well, sir…” Patrick said, removing his shoes. He felt like he was back in high school, coming over to his girlfriend’s house like this. “How’s your hip? Is it doing any better?” Lawrence nodded, leading him to the den.

“Oh, yea. I was only in bed for a week.” He said, going down a hallway. “But Luci’s brother came to help out, but once I got out of bed I sent him home. I’m perfectly capable of getting the mail and changing light bulbs, you know?”

“Of course, sir.” Patrick replied, looking into the room. The den hadn’t changed much since he last remembered, except for the flat screen HDTV and the massive DVD collection taking up an entire wall. He knew Rose was a huge fan of classic films, while Lawrence loved James Bond and all things with Sean Connery in it.

“Now, Patrick…” Lawrence looked hesitant, before gesturing him away from the door. Patrick frowned, but followed him, wondering what was wrong. Lawrence led him to a spare room, leaning against the door frame. “Luci hasn’t said anything about the tour. And I don’t know how you two got along and if she even told you all that’s happened these last few years.” Patrick nodded slowly, getting a bit worried.

“We had our fights, but… we worked things out.” He replied. Lawrence nodded, though he wasn’t fully convinced.

“Son, what I’m going to tell you is… something you’ve needed to know for a while.” Lawrence began, glancing down the hall. “Katy, Luci’s daughter… well, she’s… yours.” Patrick stared at him, not shocked, but relieved.

“Oh, well… that… I know.” Patrick said. Lawrence stared at him blankly. “Really! Luci told me… it’s all good. We’re okay now…”

“Oh, um, well now.” Lawrence shook his head and grinned. “That’s good to know then. Go hang out with them, they’ll think I killed you or something.”

Patrick smiled a bit and went back to the den. Luci, Katy, and Pete were all lounging on the couch, watching a movie. He knocked on the door frame and Katy looked up, grinning widely. She jumped over Pete and off the couch, successfully nailing him in the gut in the process.

“Daddy!” She cried, throwing her arms around his legs. Patrick smiled, lifting her up. He loved it when she called him that, though she did call him ‘Tricky’ occasionally. “Are you gonna watch a movie with us? We watchin’, um, pirates!”

Patrick nodded and took a seat in the arm chair, holding her in his lap. “Yea, sounds fun.” Katy grinned and curled up against him in his lap, turning to watch the movie. Pete smirked and started to stretch out on the couch, but Luci beat him to it, successfully kicking him in the gut. He let out a whine, clutching his stomach.

“You two are seriously trying to kill me!” He cried, pouting at her. Luci just smirked, stretching her legs out over his lap. “Lady, whatever you’re thinking about, I aint doing it.”

“Oh, c’mon, Petey.” Luci pouted right back. “Patrick is already busy with Katy, and ‘sides, you owe me for staying at my place. So rub my feet.” Pete let out a disgusted noise and rolled his eyes, but did so. She giggled and looked over at Patrick. “How’re you doin’ over there, babe?”

He shrugged, relaxing in the chair as Katy let out a yawn. “I’m good, though Katy seems to be getting sleepy…” He replied. Katy shook her head, though her eyes were drooping close slowly. It didn’t take long before she dozed off, resting her head on Patrick’s chest. He smiled and kissed her forehead, rubbing her side.

Pete playfully shoved Luci’s feet away and got up, taking Katy from Patrick. “I’ll watch her… you guys hang out or something. Just no fucking, okay?” He whispered, smirking. He managed to dodge a kick from Luci and a slap from Patrick as he hurried out the door. Patrick rubbed his face and shook his head, looking over at Luci.

She stretched out on the couch even more and looked back at him, smiling a bit. “Does it feel weird to be here again, Patrick?”

He shrugged and shook his head. “Not horribly. I mean, we spent most of our time at my house or Pete’s place. I only ever been here a few times, you know?” She nodded, rubbing her face.

“Oh, right…” She began, sitting up. “I have a doctor’s appointment tomorrow. Pete’s going to watch Katy while I go… so I was wondering if you wanted to come. Since… well, we haven’t… told anyone… anything… about, well, anything.” Patrick looked confused for a second, but then smiled and nodded.

“Sounds like a plan…”
