Sequel: Into My Arms

Turn Right

Finally Signed

“Rachael, I got signed!” Taylor exclaimed as I got to her front yard and she came running out and hugging me tight as we began jumping around and squealing.

“No way! That’s great!” I exclaimed.

“Yea, they want me down there in two hours, you need to help me get ready,” she said and dragged me inside her house.

Why must everyone tell me important things the day they’re happening…no heads up anymore?

It’s now 2006. Yea I know, it’s been a while. But we haven’t moved, so that’s a big thing to me. It’s been a full year now…it’s April again….it’s also been two years since I’ve last seen or even heard from Nick. Joe and Kevin still text me and even Denise and Paul have checked in and I’ve asked about Frankie…but nope, nothing from Nick. Miley has called and texted a lot too and she keeps me updated. Her show was going to be aired in October and she was really excited…even if it was a few months away. But the news that has really stumped me is the fact that Nick and Miley are supposedly dating! The paparazzi haven’t figured it out yet but she told me about how they’ve really ‘connected’. I’ve tried to be the best friend and be happy for her but it’s hard…I act like I’m happy for her because I don’t want her to know that the Nick she’s with was the Nick that broke my heart and she seems happy so who am I to ruin that?

Tay told me how she was at the Bluebird Café, performing and a man named Scott Borchetta asked her to go and meet him and she said I just had to go…and of course I just couldn’t say no. Her mom drove us down to the studio and found out we were early so Tay and I were told to just hang out in the recording room.

“Taylor you cant just go in there,” I hissed as she walked through the door into the smaller room, behind the big glass window.

“Why not? This is where I’ll be sitting anyway when I’m recording so why not just be ready when they came in,” She did have a point…

“Rach check this out,” she said and I cautiously walked to her as she sat on the stool and began playing her guitar as she started to sing her lyrics to her song: Tim McGraw and then she began to sing.

You said the way my blue eyes shined,
Put those Georgia stars to shame that night
I said: "That's a lie"
Just a boy in a Chevy truck,
That had a tendency of gettin' stuck,
On backroads at night
And I was right there beside him all summer long
And then the time we woke up to find that summer'd gone

“Sing with me,” she said and I nodded so we began to sing together. I’ve read her lyrics to all of her songs so many times, I memorized them.

But when you think: Tim McGraw,
I hope you think my favorite song
The one we danced to all night long:
The moon like a spotlight on the lake
When you think happiness,
I hope you think: "That little black dress"
Think of my head on your chest,
And my old faded blue jeans
When you think Tim McGraw,
I hope you think of me

Before we could sing the second verse, we heard claps and immediately stopped and looked up tow see four men standing there and Taylor’s mom followed them in. They were all smiling but they’re presence startled me a little and I stepped back quickly and tripped on the stool but Tay quickly grabbed my hand and helped me re-gain my balance.

“When we met you didn’t tell me you had a partner Taylor,” one of the men said.

“Actually Rachael is her own song writer, she writes amazing songs”

“Taylor,” I scolded quietly.

“Name’s Scott Borchetta, it’s nice to meet you Rachael,” he said and shook my hand.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you Mr. Borchetta,” I said politely and he smiled at me.

“Have you ever thought of a career in music?” he questioned.

“Well not really…”

“Scott you really have to hear her songs…they’re not really country, some are but you can still get her signed with maybe another company right?” Taylor asked and he chuckled.

“Always the persistent one Taylor…but of course I can, I’d love to hear some songs you’ve written,” he said.

“We’ve actually written some songs together if you want to hear them,” Taylor said and I just laughed because I haven’t spoken once yet, shes been speaking for me the whole time.

“Alright well lets do it,” he said and my eyes went wide as they got me a stool and another microphone and they shut the door again so it was just me and Taylor in the sound proof room.

“Teardrops on my guitar?” she questioned and I just nodded.

Drew looks at me, I fake a smile so he won't see
That I want and I'm needing everything that we should be
I'll bet she's beautiful, that girl he talks about
And she's got everything that I have to live without

Then she looked at me to urge me to sing.

Drew talks to me, I laugh cause it's just so funny
That I can't even see anyone when he's with me
He says he's so in love, he's finally got it right,
I wonder if he knows he's all I think about at night

Then we both began to sing.

He's the reason for the teardrops on my guitar
The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star
He's the song in the car I keep singing, don't know why I do

Drew walks by me, can he tell that I can't breathe?
And there he goes, so perfectly,
The kind of flawless I wish I could be
She'd better hold him tight, give him all her love
{I sang}
Look in those beautiful eyes and know she's lucky cause {she sang}

He's the reason for the teardrops on my guitar
The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star
He's the song in the car I keep singing, don't know why I do

So I drive home alone, as I turn out the light
{I sang}
I'll put his picture down and maybe{she sang}
Get some sleep tonight

He's the reason for the teardrops on my guitar
The only one who's got enough of me to break my heart
He's the song in the car I keep singing, don't know why I do
He's the time taken up, but there's never enough
And he's all that I need to fall into..

Drew looks at me, I fake a smile so he won't see

We finished and smiled brightly as they all began clapping and then we hugged each other.

“That was fantastic girls,” Scott cooed as he came in. “Taylor before we start recording your songs how about we hear Rachael sing a song or two of hers”

“That’s a great idea,” she said and handed me the guitar.

“You’ll do great,” she said before running out and having Scott shut the door.

I took a deep breath and sat on the stool as I began playing the song I sang for Miley and Billy Ray way back when.

You're the direction I follow
To get home
When I feel like I can't go on
You tell me to go
And it's like I can't feel a thing
Without you around
And don't mind me if I get weak in the knees
Cuz you have that affect on me
You do

Everything you say
Every time we kiss I can't think straight
But I'm ok
And I can't think of anybody else
Who I hate to miss
As much as I hate missing you

Months going strong now
And no goodbye
Unconditional, unoriginal
Always by my side
Meant to be together
Meant for no one but each other
You love me
I love you harder so

Everything you say
Every time we kiss I can't think straight
But I'm okay
And I can't think of anybody else
Who I hate to miss
As much as I hate missing you

So please give me your hands
So please give me a lesson on how to steal
Steal a heart as fast as you stole mine
As you stole mine

Oh and everything you say
Every time we kiss I can't think straight
But I’m okay
And I can't think of anybody else
Who I hate to miss
As much as I hate missing you
So please give me your hands
So please just take my hand

“Rach play Strong for them,” I heard Tay say into the speaker and I just starred at all of them as they waited for me to play so I just sighed and began to play.

Bet you thought that i'd be broken
Mascara streaking down my cheek
Devastated, out the door way.
In a daze, a state of disbelief
I bet you'd like that seeing me get mad
but baby i wont satisfy your needs
cuz i've already been there, done that
I'll be fine even if you leave

Ohh i dont need you anymore
Ohh and dont you know that…

You were the one that made me strong,
you made me stand up on my own
with every cruel intention you helped me find my
independence

yeah its all because of you
that i have the strength i do
to turn my pain to passion instead of crashing
Boy im thanking you, Boy im thankin you…

I finished and they all came in, clapping. “I think that sounds like a hit single” Scott said. “Really?” I asked in disbelief and Taylor’s mom hugged me.

“But I don’t think your kind of music is for Big Machine Records, how about…Hollywood Records?” he asked and I felt my heart drop as the other men nodded their heads in agreement.

“We would just need your parent or legal guardian to sign a few things and of course you will need to sign a few things as well,” Scott said nicely.

“Oh umm okay…”

“Now lets get back to Taylor shall we?” he said and I nodded.
