If your heart stops beating

Chapter 34

~*Frank’s Point of view*~

“Counting down for the new year...”
I put my arm around Jamia and hugged her tightly.
“Ten...nine...eight...seven...six...five...four...three...two...one- HAPPY NEW YEAR!”
I kissed Jamia.
“Happy 2006.”
Alec wrinkled his nose.
“Public display of affection.”
“No, private display of affection. In our own home. If you don’t like it, leave. Go to bed. It’s midnight, you should be in bed anyway.”
I turned off the TV.
“We don’t need to see hundreds of people partying.”
Alec poked me in the side.
“What?”
“Nothing. I just felt like poking you.”
I turned and proceeded to tickle him. He squealed and wriggled.
“No, don’t, please!”
“Go to bed. I’ll stop if you go to bed.”
He jumped up and ran out of the room. Jamia yawned and snuggled down under my arm.
“Sleepy.”
“Well I can’t carry you.”
“Well, you’re gonna have to.”
“Nah.”
In answer she closed her eyes and put her head on my chest.
“Aw, well, we’re gonna sit here all night then.”
She nodded. I sighed.
“Fine then.”
I gently slid out from under her and picked her up. She was pretty light, and I carried her down the hallway and into our room, dropping her on the bed.
“There you go.”
She groaned and rolled over, pulling the covers over her.
“Aw, sweet little angel.”
“Mff.”
I slid in beside her and gave her a kiss.
“Goodnight.”
“Mff.”
I clicked off the light and closed my eyes.
New Year. New start.

~*Alec’s Point of view*~

We all woke up really late on New Year’s Day. About midday I dragged myself out of bed and found Frank in the kitchen with a cup of coffee, looking extremely sleepy. He looked up as I walked in.
“Hey.”
“Hi.”
Jamia wandered in behind me.
“Good morning.”
Frank checked his watch.
“Afternoon.”
“Whatever.”
She got two bowls out of the cupboard and started pouring cereal for herself and me.
As she passed me one of the bowls the doorbell rang. Frank got up, groaning, and opened the door.
“Hey Gerard.”
Gerard came in and sat down.
“What’s up? You look worried.”
“I just got a call from Brian.”
“Really?”
“Yeah.”
“What did he say?”
Gerard sighed.
“He said there was an opening on a tour for us if we wanted it. Like all around Europe.”
“What did you say?”
“I said no.”
Frank nodded rather sadly.
“Right.”
“I mean, you guys...”
Frank frowned.
“I don’t want to be holding you guys back. If you wanna go on tour, go on tour.”
“No, don’t be stupid. We can’t play without you. And anyway, what about the album we’re halfway through making?”
“Right... Yeah okay, I suppose.”
“I just wanted to let you know.”
“Okay. Thanks.”
Gerard sighed.
“Well, I guess I’d better go.”
“Okay. Bye.”
I hugged Gerard as he passed me.
“Hey Gerard.”
“Yeah?”
“Turn that frown around.”
He smiled.
“Okay. Bye.”
As he closed the door behind him, Frank ruffled my hair.
“The world could use more people like you.”
