My Girl

Truce?

“W-what?” Nicks face turned from tranquil to totally pissed. “Why?”

Even if the words were planned out in my head, I didn’t have the strength to say them right now. I opened my mouth, but nothing came out.

“Is it that guy? Who is he, Elise? Your boyfriend?” He spit the word out and pulled his hair away from his eyes, keeping his hands tangled in them. “I cant believe this.”

He looked at me, trying to catch his breath. “Couldn’t you have told me this before I poured my heart out to you? Or is that what you wanted? For me to make myself look like a complete asshole?”

“N-Nick.” I coughed, trying hard to make the knot inside of my throat dissolve.

“WHAT!?” He stopped pacing around in the middle of the abandoned street and stared at me. His eyes were red and turning puffy. I closed my mouth and walked closer to him.

“Are you crying?” I asked quietly, looking up into his eyes. He inhaled through his nose and shook his head, pointing quickly over toward the side of the road.

“No.” He coughed. “It’s just allergies or something.”

I stared at him for a few seconds longer and as the rain slowed down to a mist, I still saw the liquid water falling across his cheeks.

“Nick I-”

“Just stop.” His voice cracked and he started to walk back toward his car.

Without another word from either of us, he reached out for his door, his fingers slipping across the wet metal, causing his hand to crash into the side of his car.

I continued to stay a few feet away from his car, even when he slammed the door after he finally sat down and tried to start the car.

But nothing happened. Not the first try, not the second. Not the third.

“SERIOUSLY!” He shouted, kicking the front tire of his car. I couldn’t help but smile slightly as he put up the hood of the car and bent down to look at the engine.

Everything happens for a reason. Good and Bad. The good things sometimes just come to you, they just get handed your way. Like the golf tournament, you can either give it up, to someone you think benefits from it more. Like Nick ending things between him and I, you can give up the good things in life because in your eyes it’s for the better of the person that you care about the most. But when I stood there, in my soaked through t-shirt and jeans that clung to my legs, and watched as Nick fumed over a broken down car, even though I knew it was way more than that, I knew what decision I would make this time.

You can take it by embracing it and realizing there is a plan for you… My dad’s own words flew through my head as I listened to my feet pound against the wet pavement.

“Nick.” My voice was suddenly rejuvenated, and Nick seemed so startled by it that he quickly turned around from the car and slammed the hood shut, just barely missing his fingers that were resting on the side. “I cant let this happen again.”

Before either of us had time to say something else, his hands were wrapped around my waist, our lips were pressed together, and something told me that I had finally made the right decision for once.

“It was a good car.” Kevin said quietly, taking off his scarf that was wrapped around his neck.

“It feels like we’re loosing a member of the family.” Joe said, staring out the window. Nick led me toward an open spot behind the large window. Joe looked away from Nick’s car that was being towed out of the Jonas’ driveway and instead focused his attention on mine and Nick’s hands.

“Are you guys going to go out public this time?” He said, looking past me to Nick. I watched as Nick’s face didn’t change from the expression he had.

“I’m pretty sure Sylvia already did that for us.” I mumbled, smiling as Nick squeezed my palm.

“Yes.” He answered his brother simply, looking away as his car got pulled out of their neighborhood.

He let go of my hand and looked behind him. “Mom?”

“In the kitchen.” She answered back. Nick started walking toward that direction and glanced over at Kevin, smiling.

“Since my car is a goner, does this mean I get Kevin’s old car?” Kevin peeled himself away from the window instantly as Nick turned the corner, running the same direction Nick left in.

“You can’t let him take Betsy!” Kevin shouted childishly. I laughed lightly and glanced at Joe, who still stared out the window.

“Do all the Jonas boys name their cars?” I asked, hoping I could somehow make his sudden hate towards me disappear.

“Nah.” Joe looked over at me and smiled. “That’s just a Kevin thing.”

I laughed and shoved my hands into my jean pockets. “Listen, Joe. I know we didn’t get off on the right foot for specific reasons, but I think things are going to be different with Nick and I, and I’m really hoping they can be better for you and I…” I stared down at the off-white carpet we were standing on and felt my cheeks turn warm.

“I think that’s really good idea.” Joe said quietly. I looked up and saw that he was smiling down at me, his hand outstretched toward mine. “Truce?”

I laughed and shook hands with him. “Truce.”

Rachael's A/N:
Jeesh. Here it is, okay? Nick and Elise. Together at last, together forever. *dances around randomly* Heh. PLUS!!! Joe doesn't hate Elise, which means he might hang around with Nick and Elise (since they are inseperable now, right?) Mhmm. Coughcough. < Chapter twenty-oneeeeee; I have a few more tricks up my sleeve with Steph, along with Sylvia and the reason why this is called My Girl, but that has been shown a few times in this story.
