My Girl
Spending the Night
When Nick pulled into my driveway, the first place I could look was Parker’s house. His Toyota was parked in the left side of the driveway, although all of the lights in the car were shut off.
“Do you have a key?” I glanced away from the car and saw Nick standing by the front door, leaning against the wall tiredly.
I took my spare key out of my pocket and walked up the porch steps, walking past him and sliding the key into the door. It clicked easily and I twisted the handle, grabbing Nick’s hand and pulling him inside.
“Will you stay with me?” The weight on my chest that had appeared after we left the hospital seemed to double when Nick’s eyes widened.
“Um-”
“I just don’t want to be left alone again.”
Nick’s expression softened and he cupped my head in his hands, making the tears in my eyes multiply. “I wont leave you.” He assured me, kissing the top of my head.
His lips lingered on my forehead and he started to kiss my cheek and then the side of my mouth.
He pulled away from me and smiled, leaving my side too soon.
“Let me call Joe and tell him what’s going on.” Nick moved his hand from the spot it had been resting on my waist and reached into his pocket for his phone, quickly dialing a number and putting it up to his ear.
“I’ll be upstairs.” I mumbled, turning on every single light possible as I made my way across the living room and up the stairs. But when I got to my bedroom, I left that light turned off and closed the door halfway, instantly falling onto my unmade bed.
Hearing the muffled one way conversation downstairs, I pulled my bed covers over my head and tightly wrapped the blankets around me.
It got suddenly silent downstairs, and from the sound of the footsteps coming from downstairs, I could tell Nick was making his way toward my bedroom.
Like expected, my bedroom door squeaked open minutes later, the light from outside shining in one single streak of light.
“Elise?” Nick’s voice seemed too loud for the size of my room, but perfect in the same way. He shut the door completely, the small light that was flooding into my room was now nonexistent. “Are you going to be alright?”
“Yeah.” My voice, so much smaller than his. “I’m sorry I asked you to stay.”
“I wanted to.” The bed tilted to the left as Nick sat down next to me. His warm breath seemed close to my face as he laid down.
“What did Joe say?” I asked, pulling my covers away from me so I could see Nick.
“He said my mom would never let me stay here.” Nick mumbled, rolling onto his back. “He also said he would cover for me if she asked where I was.”
Nick glanced at me. “I still don’t know what you said to make him suddenly like you.” I laughed and turned on my side so I was facing him.
“Remember in your room today?” I asked, watching as Nick’s eyes started to fall shut. He reopened them and nodded his head. “I had something else to say to you.”
“I know.” He smirked. “I think I know what it is.”
“Do you, now?” I laughed. Nick nodded his head and sat up, pausing inches in front of my face.
“I do.” His lips brushed up against my gently, but he pulled away. “Can you say it?”
I watched as his eyes traveled over my face, considering his question. Could I?
“I don’t trust many people.” I stated, smiling at Nick’s confused expression. “…just let me talk for a second.”
“Will do.” He flickered on a light above us and squinted at the brightness.
“But with you…I don’t feel the need to put a barrier in front of me.” My cheeks turned hot. “…you know that, since I have broken down in front of you like…six times. It usually takes me years to build relationships with people, since I’m always afraid they are just going to leave me like my dad did. But with you, it honestly took two days. And I think I’m still scared with the way I feel about you.”
Nick’s smile grew on his face. “ ‘the way you feel about me’…as in…how?”
I rolled my eyes and hit him playfully in the arm. “Are you going to make me say it?” Nick smirked and nodded his head.
“Nicholas. Jerry…Jonas. I think I might love you.” I said slowly, instantly standing up from my bed. Nick shot up and grabbed onto my wrist, pulling me back down next to him.
His kiss started off soft. The same sweet feeling that radiated from his lips overtook my body, sending it into the familiar tingling feeling. But when I felt myself getting pulled up on top him, our bodies finding a way to fit almost perfectly together, something felt different. Good different.
“Do you have a key?” I glanced away from the car and saw Nick standing by the front door, leaning against the wall tiredly.
