Awkward By The Pool
“Hey” I said a little timidly
“Hey yourself” he said back pulling me into a hug
“Eewww Zack your all sweaty” I laughed
“Well someone has to slave over here so everyone gets feed”
“And what you drew the short straw” I asked laughing
“Something like that” he laughed giving me the smile that I was starting to recognize as the smile I was only privileged enough to receive
“Want some help?” I asked
“Yea” he said shaking his head pulling me close to him and putting a pair of cooking utensils in my hands and I couldn’t help but smile at him.
The afternoon went on much the same making conversation with new people helping Zack cook and the eating what we had cooked and after eating a few people had left including Maddie.
“You wanna go swimming” Katy asked me a while after having lunch putting her beer down on the table and removing the vest she was wearing and then doing the same to her ‘I love Paris’ t-shirt
“Yea why not” I said taking another sip of my beer before proceeding to do the same
“What about you Jenna, you in?” I asked
“For sure” she laughed as we all made our way into the cool pool
“Hey this sucks all our hot chicks just left us” Jack yelled after a few minutes of us being in the pool and we couldn’t help but laugh at him
“If that’s the case Jacky, well then why don’t you join us?” Katy yelled back
“I don’t think I have ever had a better offer” he laughed and before we knew it all four boys Jack, Alex, Zack & Rian had jumped in causing a giant splash causing us and the couple stranger who didn’t care to join us to laugh hysterically.
We spent quite some time mucking around in the pool with all the girls perched on the guys shoulders to play wars. It almost ended in a fight between Jack and Alex when Katy decided to get on Alex’s shoulders so he could have a turn in our shenanigans.
“Ok you two stop fighting ill get on Alex’s shoulders” I saw Alex eyes light up and almost instantly regretted it
“Only once” I smirked and he nodded
“Hey where are you going” Zack asked me pulling ,e back towards him by my hips “Do you forget I know Alex Gaskarth and I know what he’s thinking” he gave me a look to say are you serious
“What does that mean” Alex retorted not offended in the slightest
“Dude don’t even play that” Zack laughed not letting go of me at all wrapping his board arms around my small frame pulling me closer to him and resting his head atop of mine.
“Zack, your gonna drown me” I tried to laugh but his head kept pushing mine under the water I was only short.
At that everyone stopped fighting and had a laughing fit as Zack got slightly offended and started splashing water at me, doing the exact same I splashed back, unable to open my eyes without having water thrown at them I closed my eyes and pounced on the boy taking him under with me.
Coming up we were both gasping for air in-between our fits of laughter as he held me around the waist once more. I felt so comfortable in his arms they felt strong and secure around me and I hadn’t felt that in a very long time.
Well that was until we realised everyone else’s games had stopped and everyone in the backyard was staring at one girl who had entered the back yard. She had short bleach blonde hair that fell almost to her shoulders and she wore very little even for a pool party But the thing I noticed about her the most was the filthy look she was giving me. I mean if looks could kill.
By the looks of the situation Katy and I were the only ones who didn’t know who she was while everyone continued to stare at her we threw confused looks at each other before Zack removed his arms from around my waist getting out of the pool and throwing a towel around his shoulders.
“What are you doing here Jamie?” she asked the girl in a harsh tone
“Alex invited me” she sounded sincere well maybe a little snicker escaped her lips
“Alex are you serious?” Zack retorted in Alex direction
“I did not invite her she practically forced herself upon me until I said she could come” Alex defended himself
“Come on Alex you should know better” Zack sounded wounded
“I did not, I would never do something like that” she tried to defend herself
“Yea you would Jamie” Rian spat back obviously disgusted by the girl
“Zack what are you doing with your hair it’s a mess why didn’t you straighten it?” she asked leaning into him a little and I wanted to slap her so hard I loved his hair the way it was
“Because I was in the pool and im not straightening my hair for you” he let out a digested noise much like the one wanting to escape my lips
“Oh and are you gonna leave now?” Zack asked trying to get rid of her
“Well no I thought I might have a drink before I left” she smirked “Oh hey I haven’t met you two before” she now directed her words at Katy and I who sat together on the edge of the pool “Im Zack’s girl friend” she commented and I swear my mouth dropped
“No you are not” Zack retorted getting feed up “God I need a drink” he said heading into the kitchen to retrieve exactly that.
My head swam with thought like who the fuck was this chick, and did that mean im Zack’s girlfriend he didn’t seem to think so. There was definitely more to this picture then I had the pieces to and all I could think at the moment was god I needed a drink.
“Hey so your Abigail right” Jamie asked taking a seat next to me. We hadn’t been introduced yet and I didn’t really want to be, but that was the name everyone was saying and I dint think that she was very popular around here.
“Uuhh yea” I answered with caution
“Im sorry we haven’t been introduced yet, im Jamie” she stated “So how do you know the guys?” she asked
“Oh Katy and I met them at a bar a couple weeks ago, just stayed in touch I guess”
“So you’re the chick Zacky spent all weekend with last weekend” she accused a horrid smirk running across her lips and I was faintly aware of a couple people watching us.
“Umm yea I guess that would be me”
“Oh well I just thought I would warn you, he may act like he’s single but he most differently isn’t, I mean we’ve been going out for ages it’s a bit complicated at the moment but yea” she smiled like she was the devil disguised and an angel
“Umm ok” I was so shocked by her words I didn’t know what to say
also to add to my head running a hundred miles an hour I hadn’t seen Zack in a little while.
“Yea I just don’t want you to get hurt” what the fuck she didn’t even know me
“Well thanks…im just gonna go get a drink” I told her leaving here there sitting by herself.
Who was this chick and what was going on between her and Zack? Anyone could tell that there was more to the story I just didn’t know what it was and I didn’t know whether to believe her or not. One thing I could conclude was that I didn’t like her not one bit.
After retrieving my drink from the kitchen I headed over to where Jenna sat with her legs in the pool.
“So I take you met Jamie?” she snickered
“Umm yea what’s the story there?” I asked a little curious
“Well I try to stay out of it as much a possible but her and Zack have had a on-off relationship for quite some time now but im pretty sure they are currently broken up…you see she gets with him, gets bored, breaks up with him, sleeps with someone else and then comes crawling back to him” my mind was spinning why would he let her do that to him
“Ummm wow ok…” I wasn’t sure what to say trying to take as much of this new information in as I could
“So you like him?” she asked
“Honestly I don’t know…I mean we have fun…but I don’t know”
“Yea…I’ve known the guys since high school and Zack’s always really sensible until it comes to Jamie…I don’t know why I can’t stand her” she laughed
“Yea she freaks me out a little” I laughed
And within a minute the girl that the two of us had been bitching about had come to sit and join us.
“Hey Jenna so you met Abigail…Zack was trying to get onto her so I thought I would warn her just save her some drama” Jamie informed and in that moment I had never felt more uncomfortable in my entire life.
“Umm yea girls I think im just gonna head out…nice meeting both of you” I gave Jenna a sincere look before leaving the scene.
I headed over to where Katy and Jack sat with his arms around her
“Hey guys sorry to interrupt…but Kat are you ready to leave yet?” I asked her giving a pleading look and in that moment I was glad that we knew each other well enough to be able to read each other like a book.
“Umm yea just give me a minute”
“Yea thanks ill meet you out near the car” I told her saying bye to Jack before heading towards the car

“Are you leaving?” Zack asked grabbing onto my arm
“Umm yea… thanks for inviting me” I said trying to be polite even though I probably could have screamed or at least asked for some kind of explanation
“Why you don’t have to leave yet” he said
“I can’t stay here Zack I have never felt more uncomfortable in my life then I have in the last hour or so” I told him with a hint of bitterness evident in my voice
“Jamie?” he asked
“Yea Jamie…she was nice enough to warn me about not letting you hurt me” I laughed completely un-amused
“Oh my god” he said rubbing the back of his neck
“Don’t worry Zack…just do whatever you usually do” I told him trying to hint at what Jenna had told me
“But I don’t want to, I need to move forward” he said almost like he was trying to convince himself and I wasn’t sure how he understood what I was talking about I barely understood what I was talking about, but I guess that’s what I liked about him
“Whatever Zack thanks for the invite I had fun for a while” I said as Katy approached the car
“Abby I’ll call you okay…well talk?” it wasn’t quite a question just something he felt the need to say
“Yea call me” I told him almost challenging him getting into the car and closing the door watching him as he let out a large sigh muffling up his curly hair as he went back into the house.
