Full Mental Case

PMS (Pre Moon Syndrome)

I laid in bed. I really didn't want to go to work in the next hour. I was feeling pain in places I never felt pain and living with Troy didn't help. I was picking up dirty underwear and clothes every place I stepped. I was scrapping dried eggs off the pans we used, and I was paying all the bills.

"Troy, you said you were going to pay half of the rent. The landlord said all he got was my two hundred." I said to him.

"It's been rough no one's in need construction worker." he said.

"Can you find another job?" I asked him.

"I'm only good at construction." he said.

"Bull." I said to him.

"What?" he asked me.

"Nothing." I said to him rubbing my back.

"What's wrong with your back?" he asked me drinking his beer.

"It's just that time of the month." I said to him.

"Gross." he said.

"You're not a kid anymore. You know about that stuff." I said to him getting up.

"I was kidding." he said finishing the rest of the beer and belching.

"Can you get me another beer?" he asked me.

I took his bottle and walked to the kitchen and threw it in the garbage. I went over to the fridge and pulled out another bottle. I walked over to the sink and looked up to see the moon. My back was throbbing now more than ever. I handed him the beer.

"Thanks." he said and popped it open and drank it.

"I'm going to take a bath." I said to him.

"Okay." he said.

I went into the bathroom and when I pulled back my shower curtain. I felt sick. There was hair and mud on the shower floor.

"Would it kill you to wash out the tub? Sick." I said and washed it out real good and then set the bath putting bubbles in the tub.

I stood over my sink and rubbed my back. I had to leave for work in a few minutes and thanks to Meribeth quiting. I had to go to work. I turned off the hot tap and took off my clothes and climbed into the tub. The warm water worked instantly. I lied back and sighed in relief.

"Now this is the life." I said.

I came in for work and sat behind the desk. The day nurses were such pigs. I began clearing up the desk of candy wrappers and loose papers that had no use.

"Hey that's my job." Chace said in front of me.

"Hey Chace." I said to him.

"What's wrong?" he asked me.

I sat down and hugged my stomach.

"That time of the month." I said.

"Oh." he said.

"You're not going to freak out or anything are you?" I asked him.

"That's for perverted vampires not me." he said.

I relaxed.

"I never felt this bad ever." I said to him and held my head back.

"It is close to the full moon. Maybe your bodies' getting used to you always changing." he said to me.

"Uh, it's like puberty all over again." I groaned.

"Want me to get Greg for another exciting game of chess?" Chace asked.

"Could you find another game?" I asked him.

"Sure." he said.

I heard a loud beep.

"What was that?" I asked him sitting up.

"My pager, they gave it to me tonight. Crap someone threw up upstairs. I'll find the other game." he said.

I got up and walked from behind the desk.

"Okay, I'll see what's up with Greg." I said.

"Okay." he said and sprinted away.

I walked to Greg's room and opened it. He was reading a magazine.

"Greg." I said to him.

He put the magazine down.

"Hey..." he stopped and then sat up.

I closed the door back and sat down in the chair next to his bed.

"What are you reading?" I asked him.

"Nat Geo. You okay, you don't seem like yourself." he said to me.

"Just some lady issues no big deal." I said to him.

"Where's Chace?" he asked.

"Taking care of some mess and getting us another board game." I said to him rubbing my back.

"Want to lay down?" he asked me.

"Sure." I said to him.

He scooted over and I climbed in bed. He opened the magazine back.

"Doesn't reading in the dark mess with your eyes?" I asked him.

"I'm already wearing glasses and this close to the full moon. I can practically see in the dark." he said to me.

He opened up the page of naked women.

"So are you reading the articles?" I asked him.

He flipped through the page.

"Just learning about the giant squid." he said.

"Oh..." I said and then my stomach started to growl.

I hugged it and sat up.

"You sure you okay?" he asked me.

"It hurts like right here." I said pointing to the side of my stomach .

"Here?" he asked and then placed his hand on it and rubbed. I laid back down as he rubbed.

"Yeah." I said relaxing.

"How does that feel?" he asked me.

"Really good." I said and smiled. I closed my eyes.

His hand seemed to move my top up just a little and his hand went over the claw marks.

"They're still there." he said quietly and sighed.

He pulled away.

"Thanks for the rub." I said and smiled .

"Now what are you two crazy kids doing in here?" Chace asked.

He walked into the room with a checker board.

"Nothing, I'm just laying down." I said sitting up.

"Don't be a pervert." Greg said to Chace.

"So tomorrow's your last day and you're coming back with me buddy." Chace said smiling.

"I can't wait to get out." he said.

"Really?" I asked him.

He looked at me.

"Well, I mean, get out of the hospital but not leaving my friends." he said and smiled.

"You can visit us anytime." Chace said.

"I don't know if Troy will let me." I said.

"Your boyfriend?" Greg asked me.

I nodded and set up the checker board with my black pieces. He chose red. Chace sat backwards on the chair and watched me as I talked. .

"Yeah he moved in a few days ago." I said.

"So you guys made the first step to live together?" Chace asked.

"Actually he made the first step. He moved in without me knowing." I said.

"Why didn't you kick him out then?" Greg asked.

"His boxes were already in the house and I didn't want to start up anything." I said.

"You're too nice for your own good Addy." Chace said.

"I'm not an aggressive person." I said to Chace.

"I understand neither am I." Greg said.

"But look who's the werewolves." Chace said and smiled.

"I don't know sometimes I wish, I never dated him." I said.

"Well then why don't you end it?" Gregory asked looking at the red chip.

"I would like to but I don't know how he would feel." I said.

"It's not about how he feels all the time. I've been on earth for a long time it's never about the other person it's about your feelings." Chace said.

"That reminds me how old are you anyway?" I asked Chace.

"I told you twenty-two." he said.

"No how many years are you." Greg asked.

"Old." Chace said.

"Can you give us an age." I said to him.

"Remember World War I?" he asked me.

"Yeah." I said.

"Before that." he said.

"You can't remember can you?" I asked him.

"He can remember, he's just sensitive about his age. Right old man." Gregory asked.

"Okay play your games whippersnappers." he said in an old man's accent.

We laughed then there was a beep coming from his beeper.

"I got to go." he said and sighed.

"Later." Gregory said.

"King me." I said to him.

"What how?" Gregory asked.

Chace left and I struck up another conversation while Gregory set up the board.

"So did you have a girlfriend?" I asked him.

"I did, she supported me a lot with my bicycle riding." he said.

"What happen to her?" I asked him.

"As far as I know she's married." he said and sighed.

"What happened to you guys?" I asked.

"It happened, the werewolf." he said to me.

"Did you tell her about it?" I asked him.

"Never did, I don't regret it. She doesn't need to know. She's happy, I'm happy." he said.

"You must miss her." I said to him.

"I do." he said.

I placed a hand on his and he looked up at me.

"Your life will definitely get better." I said to him.

"I doubt it. It's doing pretty crappy now." he said.

"Look, it's like Karma. Bad things make good outcomes." I said to him.

"Me scratching you has a good outcome?" he asked me staring at the bar.

I rubbed my stomach.

"I made a new friend." I said.

He looked up at me.

"I did too." he said and we smiled.

"Your move." I said to him.

"How does your boyfriend treat you?" he asked me.

"What do you mean?" I asked him.

"Does he respect you?" he asked.

"Yeah, I mean, he's lazy at times and a little obnoxious but aren't most men?" I asked him.

"Yeah, he never.... laid a hand on you though right?" he asked.

"Why are you asking this?" I asked him.

"It makes me feel bad that I scarred you and you take it so easily. As if it was period at the end of a sentence." he said to me.

"Well, it's not a big deal." I said to him.

"It is to me. My mom rose me to respect women. I'm trying, it's just difficult now that I have another part of me I can't control." he said.

"Your mom did a good job with you and I forgive you for the last time. Okay, don't talk about it anymore." I said to him.

"You still didn't answer my question." he said.

I didn't look him in the eye and I stayed quiet.

He gasped.

"Why would he do something like that to you?" he asked me.

I got up.

"I don't know I got to go." I said to him.

"Wait." he said getting up.

I walked out the door closing it.

He pulled at the door and banged on the window. I hid behind the wall and closed my eyes as hot tears rolled down my cheeks.
