I Fell In Love When I Least Expected to...

I looked out of the window and sighed. I remembered the first day I got here with the King…
Emerald held my hand in hers for support as we headed inside.
Loads of cars, limos, carriages were around… I guess everyone showed up in their own way…
We walked inside the mansion and Mary saw me.
Tears fell from her eyes as she ran up to me. She embraced me tightly and started mumbling incoherent words.
“Wow, Mary calm down. I’m okay…” I said to her as she slowly let go.
“I was worried sick about you! I’m so glad you’re okay!” Mary said hugging me again.
Somebody cleared their throat and Mary let go of me.
I turned around only to find Nate there.
“We better head in side…” he said smiling at Mary.
She nodded and turned to me.
“Don’t worry Mary… we’ll get to talk about everything soon” I said encouragingly as Nate took me away.
I turned my attention to the Ball room and I couldn’t help but stare at the decorations…
I love this room.

I couldn’t help but remember the first time I was in here. The first time I saw Alex… I sighed and headed over towards the other lycan packs. Everyone was separated in a way… Elves at the back, Vampires on the right and Lycans on the left.

I stood next to Emerald as everybody began to dance. Soon though the girls were off dancing and I was just standing there.
I sighed and decided to go get some fresh air.
I told Nate so he wouldn’t worry and I left the room.

I walked outside to the big balcony and sighed.
Why did I have to be here? Why did I have to stay and watch him get engaged to some other girl?
Tears fell from my eyes at the thought… I love him. But tonight he’s going to choose another woman. I’m not really surprised at that… I’ve been away for 1½ month now… it’s normal he’s moved on.
Then again… he never loved me so he didn’t really have to move on… there was nothing to leave behind, was there?

The music stopped from inside and that brought me back to reality. I heaved a sigh and decided to go back in. The sooner it happens the sooner I’ll leave and never come back…

“Where are you off to?” a voice asked.
That voice sent chills down my spine. I turned only to come face to face with Damien.
“It seems my plan has backfired…” Damien observed.
I stared blankly at him not wanting to give him the pleasure of acknowledging what he said.
“He’s never loved you after all…” he continued.
I cringed at that and I saw him smirk at my reaction.
“Tonight… at the first dance… Alex will be dancing with his fiancée… he’ll look into her eyes and… BAM! He’ll be gone…” Damien said laughing evilly.
“What are you talking about?!” I asked.
He just smirked at me and disappeared.
“Damn vampires and teleporting…” I grumbled.

I walked back inside and saw Lucian and Melanie there.
“Selene!” Mel beckoned me over.
“You lost everyone’s big entrance!” Emerald interrupted.
I just chuckled… so what if I did miss it?

A bell sounded and everybody stopped talking.
The King appeared at the stage.
“Thank you all for coming. Tonight is a special night… Prince Alex will pick his bride…” the King said.
Everyone clapped and cheered as Alex appeared next to the King.

My breath caught in my throat as I looked at him. I could feel my heart tearing. It hurt seeing him after so long… and knowing he didn’t care about me.
“He’s going to announce his decision now… and then the night will begin!” the King said smiling proudly at Alex.
Alex returned the smile and walked to the front.

He scanned the crowd and he suddenly stopped moving, breathing, everything.
He was staring right at me…
