A Little Piece of Heaven

Chapter Ten

An hour later, we were all at the beach. The boys were running around playing football, while Melle and I sat under a big umbrella watching. My eyes couldn’t seem to detach themselves from watching Brian’s half naked body. Melle seemed entranced by Zacky too.

“Melle, Kass? Is that you?” someone asked beside us. I looked up and saw a woman standing near us. Instantly I recognised her.

“Jam?!” I greeted almost yelling. Melle looked over and saw who I was talking to. “I haven’t seen you in ages! How long has it been now?”

“Almost two years I think,” Jamie replied, still smiling, “I just moved back to Huntington Beach.”

“That’s great!” Melle said, grinning from ear to ear. Jamie, or Jam for short, was an old friend of mine. We had been friends since we were little. She left Huntington Beach for a while to do some work for her career. It was great to see her again.

“Join us, girlie,” I patted the spot next to me under the umbrella. Jamie sat down next to us.

“So what are you guys doing out here?” Jamie asked conversationally.

“Looking at the view,” I indicated the boys playing football. At that moment, Jimmy tackled Zacky to the ground, which earned a ‘whoop’ out of me.

“Ooh, who are they?” Jamie asked, eyeing Johnny. It was time to play match maker.

“They are our friends,” I told her.

“Single? Taken? Married?” Jamie inquired, still watching Johnny run around shirtless. This was going to be too easy.

We informed Jamie on everything we knew about the boys. Who they were, their status, and everything like that. Jamie was getting even more interested in everything we were telling her. It wasn’t hard to tell that she had her eyes set on Johnny.

“So you guys want to go for a swim?” Jamie asked, wiggling her eyebrows in a suggestive way. Oh this girl was good.

“Sure, why not?” Melle answered, smirking to herself. We all got up from our towels and headed towards the water. The boys stopped their playing and watched us go into the water. I could see their mouths drop as they watched us swing our hips towards the water’s edge. Before long, the boys forgot about their game and joined us in the water. There was a lot of splashing each other, which earned squeals out of us girls. Yet it was great fun.

By the end of the day we all pretty tired, since we had all been out last night. But it didn’t matter; we had a kick ass day. I was sitting in my room just dabbling on my keyboard while Melle was watching some TV downstairs. The boys had gone home. Jamie had given Johnny her number, which made all the guys laugh and make fun of him; in a nice way, of course.

I started making a song and writing down the notes on some music paper. It took me about a good hour to finally get it down. It turned out to be wonderful. I couldn’t wait to show someone it, but not now. It would be a surprise for a later time. Melle would just have to wait till tomorrow to hear it.

The next day, Melle was waiting for me in the kitchen. She was munching away on Fruitloops, and greeted me with a smile. Once I had made my coffee and got a bowl of cereal, I joined her at the kitchen table.

“So, did you make any songs last night?” Melle asked and took another mouthful of cereal.

“Yeah, one,” I answered her, taking a sip of my coffee. Ahhh... Nothing like a good cup of coffee in the morning.

“Are you actually going to put any of these songs you create onto a CD?” Melle pushed. We had had this conversation too many times before. And every time, I told her I didn’t want to. I was happy with my life, I didn’t want it to change. Melle, however, never stopped asking me to get into a recording studio with my songs.

“Melle, we’ve been through this a hundred times,” I groaned. Yet, I couldn’t help but thinking just then that maybe I should just do it to shut her up.

“At least let someone hear it?” Melle whined. God I hated it when she did that!

“I’m going to let you hear it, you idiot,” I rolled my eyes at her.

“Someone else,” Melle responded, “What about Brian?”

“We’ll see, ok?” I said, ending the discussion.

“Fine,” Melle sulked and continued to eat her cereal, “But I’m going to tell Brian about it. I think he feels the same way I do.” I ignored her and finished my breakfast.

A few days later, I was up in my room again, practising that song that I had composed. I was beginning to think maybe Melle was right. Should I show this to someone? I shook my head. No! I didn’t want to get caught up in all that. I was happy where I was. But a little thought always creeped back into my head saying ‘what if?

Shaking myself, trying to get rid of these thoughts, I began to start the song again.

Time is gonna take my mind
and carry it far away where I can fly
The depth of life will dim my temptation to live for you
If I were to be alone silence would rock my tears
'cause it's all about love and I know better
How life is a waving feather

So I put my arms around you, around you
And I know that I'll be leaving soon

My eyes are on you, they're on you
And you see that I can't stop shaking

No, I won't step back but I'll look down to hide from your eyes
'cause what I feel is so sweet and I'm scared that even my own breath
Oh could burst it if it were a bubble
And I'd better dream if I have to struggle

So I put my arms around you, around you
And I hope that I will do no wrong
My eyes are on you, they're on you
And I hope that you won't hurt me

I'm dancing in the room as if I was in the woods with you
No need for anything but music
Music's the reason why I know time still exists
Time still exists
Time still exists
Time still exists

So I put my arms around you, around you
And I hope that I will do no wrong
My eyes are on you, they're on you
And I hope that you won't hurt me
So I put my arms around you, around you
And I hope that I will do no wrong
My eyes are on you, they're on you
And I hope that you won't hurt me

I finished the song and smiled to myself. That truly was a beautiful song.

Just then, I heard a beeping sound come from my doorway. Instantly, I turned to see what it was. My mouth fell open as I saw a smirking Brian standing in my doorway holding a video camera. “Perfect,” Brian said before closing the camera. I was going to kill him.

“Did you just film me?” I asked, getting up from my seat at my keyboard.

“Maybe,” Brian shrugged.

“Give me the camera and I’ll let you live,” I tried to threaten. I knew it would be a losing battle, but I could try anyway.

“Not a chance,” Brian refused, and took the memory card out and put it in his wallet.

“Melle put you up to this, didn’t she?” I asked, my hands now on my hips.

“Maybe she did, maybe she didn’t,” Brian answered. Argh!

“I’m going to take that as a yes,” I rolled my eyes, “Excuse me, I have to go kill a certain little brunette.”

SAY HELLO TO JAM!

This one was sort of filler-ish...

Dancing by Elisa was the song that Kass sang. I do not own it! All credit goes to Elisa. I really liked this song, so I thought I'd include it for no particular reason XD
