You Changed My Life Kid.

Chapter Twenty: Wedding and Baby Genders.

Leila’s show and tell project didn’t work very well. A lot of parents complained. About what I have no clue. Leila was so unhappy. All she wanted to do was make friends and these kids weren’t giving her a chance. After a lot of thinking and conferences with her teacher we thought it best that we wait out the year and then see how the first six weeks of the next year went.

Lily was due that summer. We were so excited. I mostly. We decided that we would put the wedding off until after the baby was born, but she wanted to be married before the baby. So we went down to city hall and were married in front of a justice of the peace. Leila came with us. She loved being part of it.

That morning, Lily and I woke up early, because our appointment was the first one. I opened my eyes to see Lily laying towards me. She was showing a lot now and I loved it. She got frustrated because her clothes would fit one day and not the next. I always comforted her with kissed and telling her it will all be over soon enough. When her eyes opened I leaned in gave a quick kiss. Sitting up I leaned down kissing her tummy then bouncing out of the room to wake Leila. Not only were Lily and I getting married that morning afterwards the three of us were going to the doctors to find out what the baby was. Leila got up with no problems. Lily took a shower while I got Leila dressed. As I brushed her hair, she asked,

“Daddy, do you think I could call Lily mommy like the baby?” she asked. I stopped brushing her hair and turned her around to face me.

“Baby I’d think she’d like that a lot but you should ask her. I wouldn’t have a problem with it.” I said. She smiled.

As Leila eat her breakfast at the table, I went to get dressed. When I walked into the bedroom. Lily was standing in the mirror dressed and ready to go. She looked beautiful. She was wearing a white dress. It hugged her body and it looked so beautiful on her. Her hands were running over her bump, she jumped a little when mine were placed on hers.

“You look amazing.” I whispered in her ear staring into her eyes in the mirror. She smiled. I kissed her neck before letting her turn around and I wrapped my arms around her.

“I love you so much.” she whispered. I kissed her tips gently before telling her that I loved her too.

She went and joined Leila at the table as I dressed. I didn’t rush but I was moving quickly. I didn’t want to be late and I didn’t want to be to early. I was hoping to grab a coffee before going. I was wearing dress pants, a button down shirt with a tie. I had gotten a hair cut a week before so it was short. As I walked down the stairs to meet my girls I was buckling my belt. my socks were slippery against the carpet so I was carefull. Lily was placing Leila’s bowl in the sink as I entered the kitchen. Leila was sipping her juice.

“Okay who’s ready to go?” I asked. They both raised their hands. “Good, I just need to slip my shoes on, babe why don’t you two go to the car and warm it up, while I make sure every things locked up.” she nodded, pecking my lips before walking outside with Leila. Double checking the backdoor I slipped my dress shoes on. I power walked to the car after locking the front door. Leila and Lily were smiling when I got in.

Lily told me what they had discussed, which was the question that Leila had asked me earlier that morning. I was happy to hear that Lily was happy to have Lily call her mommy. I couldn’t help but smile. I knew that Mary-Lynn, Leila’s real mother, would have approved and that she’d be happy for Lily and I about getting married and having a new baby. If your wondering, Leila knows who her real mother is. She understands that she passed away when she was a baby and it wasn’t her fault. She was very sick. There’s a picture of Mary-Lynn and Leila hanging on her wall in her room. We visit her grave twice a year. On Mother’s day and Mary-Lynn’s birthday. We bring flowers.

When we reached City Hall, I carried Leila in as I held Lily’s hand. The ceremony was short and we were soon husband and wife. When I kissed her for the first time as my wife, my heart raced and never thought I could put so much passion behind a kiss. Leila cheered happily.

We didn’t have time to go home and change from the clothes we were wearing before going to the doctors office. We knew this so Lily brought a change of clothes with her. She changed when we reached the doctors office. When we were called into the room where the examine was going to happen, I sat down in a chair that was next to the bed, I pulled Leila up on my lap. Lily was sitting on the bed, we were talking softly as we waited. The doctor came in shortly after. I had met him several times before since I had been to all but one appointment with Lily. But this was Leila’s first time with us. He greeted her nicely and offered a lollipop. She took it with a soft thank you. He knew that I had a child who’s mother had passed when she was baby, so it wasn’t like she was some random child.

“Okay, we’re here today to see if we can find out what the baby is, is that right?” he asked looking down at the paper in her chart.

“Yep.” We all said at once. I couldn’t help but giggle, my heart was racing. I knew what I wanted and why. I wanted another baby girl. I wanted a girl because I knew I could raise one. But I knew it’d be a new adventure if the baby was a boy. I’d then have a little buddy who I could teach so many more things to that I knew I couldn’t with a girl.

The doctor dimmed the lights after getting everything all set up, he squirted some gel on Lily’s down baby bump. As he searched her stomach for the baby, my heart almost came out through my throat when it came on the screen.

“Ah, there we go.” he said. Pointing out the different body parts. I was holding back tears. I was holding Lily’s hand, I kept rubbing my thumb over hers. “Okay, ready to find out?” he asked. I nodded my head to scared I might burst into tears over the sight of my child. “Mr. and Mrs. Baker, you’re going to the proud parents of…” he pressed a button on the key board which made the screen freeze. “Another baby girl.” he said turning towards us. I lost it then. A total rush of emotion came over me. I buried my face into Leila’s shoulder as I cried. I held her tightly to me.

“Daddy are you okay?” she asked. I looked up at her and smiled.

“Baby, I couldn’t be happy then I am right now.” I whispered to her. I stood slowly letting Leila slip from my lap. I leaned down and gave Lily another passion filled kiss. When I pulled away from the kiss I looked her right in the eyes and said, “You’ve made me the worlds luckiest man.”
