Help Me, Before I Fall
Preface
“Hey Hailey.” My mom smiled as I walked in the door.
“Hey mom.” I smiled back and went down to my room. Yes, I mean down… my room is downstairs… not upstairs. When you go downstairs in our house, it doesn’t look like it look like a basement. It’s got a living room, with chairs and a table. The is a little island in between the ‘living room’ and the kitchen, which is supplied with food that I buy. So basically chips, pop, sweets, and the occasional actual food, like chicken, meatloaf…. Those TV dinner meals. Downstairs is my zone, there is a TV down here and a computer. This is where me and my friends hang out, it’s what we call ‘The Zone’
“Hails, come up here.” My dad said, from the top of the stairs.
“Yea dad?”
“Did you just get in?”
“Yea.”
“What were you doing out so late? It’s a school night.”
“I told you, tonight was the football game, then I was going over to Aaron’s.”
“The game ended at 9. It’s midnight.”
“I know.”
“Oh Sean, calm down. She’s 16. Not 6. Her curfew is 11:45, she was 5 minutes late. It’s no big deal.” My mom turned to m. “go on to bed sweetie.” I nodded and went back downstairs. I heard yelling and looked up.
“Oh no.” I whispered, and went up to the top of the staircase, I sat down and watched from there.
“She was out for 3 hours with her boyfriend!!!”
“What do you think they were doing!! Absolutely nothing!! You know our daughter!!”
“Apparently not!! Not if she’s staying out until midnight on school nights!! She’s my little girl, she needs to be home at decent times.”
“You got home 5 minutes before her!!! You have to work tomorrow!!”
“That’s different!!”
“HOW!!!!! Wait… IS THAT LIP GLOSS???????” My mom screeched.
“What, your accusing me of cheating on you?”
“Well, why is their lip gloss on your neck???”
“I don’t have to explain myself to you. I’m leaving.” My eyes widened and I watched my dad disappear up the stairs, to their room. My dad came back downstairs 10 minutes later.. suitcases packed. I got up and followed him to the front door.
“Daddy?? Please don’t leave. I’m sorry I got in so late. I’ll be in by 9 from now on, please just don’t leave.” I said, tears in my eyes. He sighed and put his stuff down.
“Come here.” He said, then kissed my forehead. “I’m not leaving because of you. Your mother and I.. we just aren’t a good match anymore. Take care of yourself Hails.”
“I love you daddy.” I cried
“I love you too.” With that, he left. Left me, and my mom, to fend for ourselves.

“Hailey, sweetie, I hear about your father. I’m so sorry. Aaron is upstairs.”
“Thank you Mrs. Gory.” I smiled and went upstairs. “Aaron can we-“ I cut myself off as I looked at my boyfriends bed. “Aaron?!?!?!?!”
“Hailey!! It’s not what it looks like!!”
“Really… cause it looks like you POUNDING MY BEST FRIEND!!!!!”
“Hailey-“
“How long.” I cut him off.
“2 years.” I shook my head, tears falling. “it’s not like you were giving me any!! We’ve been dating for 3 years!!!”
“Isn’t this perfect, my dad left, my mom blames me… and now I find out my boyfriend has been cheating on my for 2 years with my best friend. Well.. that really is the icing on the cake. We’re over.” I cried, running downstairs
“Hailey honey, what’s wrong?”
“No offence, but your soon is a cheating asshole!!” I ran out the door. That is where my life started to crumble.
