I'd Photocopy All the Things That We Could Be, If You Took the Time to Notice Me

Picture Day

Yesterday, the juniors had had their pictures taken for by lifetouch. Today was the seniors’ turn. Last years juniors lined up as the cheesy photographer told us to smile and tilt our head to the side. My best friends Frankie and Ray stand in front of me talking about the test on Thursday. "I was like 'no you're fucking kidding me, right?' and he was like, 'watch you're mouth, Mr.Iero!'" I listened to Frank fill us in on third period History. "No, cause remember. He asked you to take the articles out of yesterday's newspaper and told you to make a poster and that's when you said 'are you fucking kidding'" Ray claimed. "Yeah, that was what I heard from the office. I hear them call ya down am I think 'what the hell?'" I said. Frankie started to laugh when we heard someone shout. "What makes me think I'm gonna do what you say?" miss queen bee had shouted.
Meet Karen Nelson. She was the second most popular girl in school and acted like she was queen bee when the real queen was absent. Her pose was behind her and consisted of Olivia Marshall and Dakota Harris. Really, when City was here, Karen knew her place and knew it wise not to open her mouth.
"Frank Iero." The photographer called him next. He looked at me like he was going to war and walked towards the camera. The camera snapped and Frank blinked a couple times to see. Ray was next and then I was. I always hated getting my picture taken.

My favorite class was next. English class. I was drawing in my notebook while the teacher was talking about some of the greatest influences in the literature world. Her favorite was Shakespear. What kind of last name is Shakespear? who knows. I don't.
No-one looked up as the wooden door opened and in came City Hall. Her bright, cherry red hair going with her beige, low-cut top that allowed certain parts of her anatomy stand out. I watched her out of the corner of my eye hand a tardy slip to the teacher and take a seat behind me. "Can anyone tell City what she missed this morning in class? Gerard how 'bout you?" I was involuntary picked and forced to talk to her. I stayed facing the front of the class as I explained. "We turned in our essays on famous screenwriters and had a pop quiz over them." I finished. "Oh, great, so I didn't miss anything important." she sighed falsely actually pretending to care. I was tempted to look back but didn't and just went on writing.
I felt a tapping on my shoulder. What does she want to do with me? I looked back and saw her leaned forward and drawing swirls on her paper. "What?" I whispered. She looked up and smiled. "What are we suppose to do exactly?" I sighed "We're suppose to be trying to write our own screenplay." I answered and turned back around.
Next I feel something nudging into my back. Not again! I look back and see her moving her binders around on her desk trying to get her hand in a comfortable position to write the rest of her paper in. I shake my head and ignore the feeling for the rest of the period.

Lunch came around 12:35 and I got my food and sat next to Frank, Mikey by brother and Ray. "I can't believe my schedule this year!" Ray complained for the hundredth time. "I've got fucking math with Olivia Marshall." He took a bite of his sandwich. "You think you've got it bad, I've got gym and History with Karen Nelson. That's a pain and a half!" Frankie acted as if he had just learned this.

Our attention was drawn to the head of the cafeteria as Miss. DeSoto and a whole group of people (including City) stood in costume. Miss DeSoto was the only one not in costume walked up with a mic in her hand and said, "I am proud to present the cast for this years fall production of Bloody Mary, with you're very own, City Hall as Mary herself.
City stepped up in a white dress torn at the bottom that clung to her shape with a splatter or crimson blood on the front. Her face was white with makeup indicating her character was dying of blood loss. She bowed and seemed to looking right at me. She winked and backed up to her original position in back of Miss. DeSoto. and watched as the others presented themselves.
