It's No Fun on the Sidelines

Substitute Coaches

All six of us stood there as we watched Katie ride off. I couldn’t believe how Travis acted towards her. He needed to get over himself… and the fact that he’s hung over.

“It’s no wonder why you don’t have a girlfriend. Look how you just treated her,” I said a little meanly, but I didn’t care. He deserved it.

“Yeah, but she scared the living hell out of all of us,” he protest. I just stared at him as my hands slowly came to a rest on my hips. “What do you suggest I do, Molly? She’s off riding. She’s not going to stop now,” he went on.

“Do I have to do everything for you, Pastrana?” I asked slightly annoyed.

“Not everything. Just this one thing,” he replied as a grin slowly made its way through.

“Fine, but Bilko’s couch for the day. I have a feeling she’s not going to want to deal with you for a while,” I told him as I mounted my bike.

“What, why is the Aussie so special?” Andy chimed in.

“Would you rather Todd and I do it rather than Bilko and I?” I asked already knowing the answer.

I think people underestimate Todd a little bit. Sure Bilko has some big tricks, but Todd has some really dangerous ones; maybe a few more than Bilko. I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t want her learning Todd’s tricks.

“Todd and you,” Jim piped in.

I just looked at him with a face that I knew he interpreted as are you kidding me?

“All three of us will do it,” Todd added, playing the peacemaker. “It makes sense. Three riders. Three different styles. This could be really good for her.”

I had to smile. Not only does my man have insanely good looks, he has intelligence.

“Alright. It’s settled. Give me like ten minutes to calm her down. Trav,” I paused to look back at him. “If you come back out here, don’t act as hung over as you are,” I went on and then started the bike.

I slowly started my way to Travis’s freestyle course. To my surprise, I couldn’t hear another dirt bike motor other than my own. Once I finally get there, Katie was sitting on the lip of a jump with her knees pressed against her chest and her helmet resting at her side. I felt bad for the girl. Travis usually doesn’t snap like this. I think him just being scared and hung over pushed him over the edge.

“Riding by yourself can’t be too much fun,” I remarked as I climbed the jump to sit with her.

“I found that out,” she replied with a weak smile.

We sat there in silence for a few minutes. I hadn’t the slightest clue on how to approach this. I’m usually just the person that tells the person that did something wrong (TRAVIS!) to apologize to the person he did something wrong to (Katie).

“Is Travis upset with the way I snapped at him?” she asked sweetly, breaking the silence between us.

“Why should he be upset?” I asked before thinking it through.

“I guess I shouldn’t have went about waking up everyone like I did,” she replied innocently.

“Are you crazy? He had no reason to go off on you like he did,” I said maybe a little too loudly.

“But he is my coach. I should have waited until he got up.”

“You know what? We’re going to forget about Trav today. Todd, Bilko, and I are your substitutes,” I couldn’t help but smile.

Her eyes shot up at me, reassembling a bug’s.

“Bilko?” she asked with her eyes growing wider.

“I know he’s not the most ideal, but…”

“He’s amazing,” she said, cutting me off.

“That he is, but you know I have to say my man’s better,” I smirked as the distant sound of motors could be heard.

Within a few minutes, Todd and Bilko appeared, geared up and ready to go. Todd stopped right beside me with Bilko doing the same, leaving me in between them.

“Travis said you were working on the back flip. He’s pretty confident you can pull it to dirt. Want to try?” Todd asked taking charge.

Aw, poor Katie. She looked at him with such a scared expression. Maybe I should try.

“If you’re not comfortable, you don’t have to do it. We can work on some other tricks,” I voiced, receiving a fierce look from Todd.

“I’m comfortable. It’s just I haven’t done it before. I’m not sure I had it good enough in the foam pit,” she said quietly.

“That’s why this lovely lady is here. First female to pull a back flip on a full sized dirt bike dirt to dirt and ramp to dirt,” Bilko smirked as he slid his arm around my shoulders.

“That’s my girl,” Todd smiled over at me.

“Alright. That’s enough. You guys are making me blush,” I said, smiling as I peeled Bilko’s arm off of me.

“Let’s give this a go, Katie. I’ll go first,” I continued as I slid my colorful Fox helmet on.

I could feel all three pairs of eyes on me as my bike started. Getting in line with the jump, I held Katie’s eye contact until my front tire hit the beginning of the ramp. Once I got the pop off the lip, I pulled back and let my momentum flip me around. I landed smoothly and spun around to see the two boys with impressed expressions on their faces. Katie on the other hand, looked a little scared.

“Don’t worry about it, Katie. You got his,” I encouraged as I took my helmet off and she started her bike.

I watched her, knowing she would do decent. She may not pull it off, but I knew she had a good idea of what to do. I wasn’t worried about her. Travis is a good coach. I just hope Todd, Bilko, and I are just as good combined.

First off, I got to give credit where credit is due. If you watch Nitro Circus, you should know that Jolene Van Vugt is actually the first female to flip a full size dirt bike. But since she's not a 'big part' in this story, Molly is. But...

WOOT! I couldn't help but notice all the numbers going up. That's amazing lol.

Bilko, Katie, and Molly

I made that last night and totally forgot about Todd... so I made an insanely cute one of him lol

TODD POTTER!
