A Price For My Soul

005.

“…Yeah, I know I wasn’t supposed to say the last part out loud,” Gemini muttered, her cheeks flaming red. I looked at Jack, whose face was also turning pink. I smiled; ice cream was going to be fun. I raised my hand from my lap and nudged Gemini, who was looking out the window as we passed McDonald’s. She looked at me and gave me a weak smile.
“I think it’s cute. I mean, five minutes ago, he hated us, now he is checking you out.” I gave her a lopsided grin. Gemini nodded her head, which translated to ‘yeah, but I don’t really want to talk about it’.

The van took a turn and we pulled into the McDonald’s. Zack was bouncing in his seat in front of me; I took that as a sign that he really liked ice cream.

Zack’s door was open before we had fully parked and Gemini was out seconds after him. I had always known she liked ice cream though.

Once inside, with an unhappy Jack moping behind Zack was already at the till, for himself, Rian and Alex.

“One vanilla Mcflurry and one Rolo Mcflurry, and you Jack?” Gemini kindly turned, with a wide grin pasted on her face. Jack tired to smile back and ordered smarties Mcflurry. Once out order was filled, we took the brown tray full of ice cream and took our places in a large booth. Rian was pressed against the wall, holding his Oreo Mcflurry, with Gemini beside him. Jack managed to slide in next to a fluttered Gemini, without spilling his ice cream. Zack sat across from Rian, myself across from Gemini, Alex next to me, with the same Oreo ice cream as Zack and Rian.

“So, you like vanilla?” Alex tried to make conversation. I nodded and signed to Gemini, who did not really want to sign for me. But she did anyway.

“I’m simple like that. So, you guys are pretty big right?” Gemini matched my hands with words.

“Yeah, well I wouldn’t say we are that big.” Zack grinned.

“Well you must be, in order to have twenty different posters.” Gemini followed my hands.

Alex laughed and nodded. “You really don’t know our music do you Sam?” he asked, taking another bite of his ice cream. I shook my head.

“I know it, by hearing it, I could tell you if I know the song but I can’t tell you the song.” Gemini sighed, taking another bite of her ice cream, waiting for me to sign anything else. Alex nodded and finished off the rest of his ice cream. I looked at Rian who was done his ice cream. We ate in silence for a few minute till everyone but myself was done eating.

Gemini talked on the way back to the venue, about our jobs, where we lived, how long we had been here, what we wanted to do in the future.

“Sammy is going to be famous. She can play guitar like a manic and she has the voice of a nightingale.” Gemini boasted. I rolled my eyes and felt my cheeks heat up. I pulled out my notebook and started scribbling.

Gemini = Writer

I lifted the sign and showed it to everyone. Gemini went bright scarlet like before when she noticed Jack had been checking her out.

“That is so cool,” Zack had a glitter in his eyes. Once back at the venue we made it back to the table, Jack asked Gemini about her writing while Rian and Zack ran off to meet other people.

“Stories? Poems? Lyrics?” Jack questioned, turning to Gemini. They got in their own little world and began a conversation of their own.

Alex took my notebook out of my hands and grabbed my pen. I watched him write then he handed the book back to me. We continued like this for a while.

So, how long have you been like this? –A

Three years. –S

Oh, must be hard –A

Not really, I mean when you run into people like Jack, yes. But not with my family. I think it was harder on them than myself. I mean, they all learned to sign for me, and they had to deal with me when I was depressed about it. –S

Oh, I never thought of that. –A

:) It’s all good. I mean, I leaned something. Plus, last year is when I discovered that I can sing too. –S

;) I imagine you have a pretty voice. Could you sing for me sometime? –A

Uh, sure, I could now, -S

Really? Would you like a guitar? –A

I would but I imagine you don’t have a left handed spare, -S

Yeah, I do :) We have one in the back. One second. –A

Alex stood and handed me the notebook, when I looked up, he was gone. Gemini and Jack were deep in discussion. Alex returned with a beautiful left-handed Fender Dreadnought Acoustic. I smiled and took the guitar from his hands.

I cleared my throat and Gemini noticed me. I signed to her and she spoke my words.

“Cover or original?” her voice was excited. Jack wiped out his phone and in seconds Zack and Rian were beside himself and Gemini.

“Both!”

I started strumming and the words flew out of my mouth.

“Looked out my window tonight
into the cloud hidden sky
and I, I proclaimed it to be mine
then I knew I'd bringing home,
bring home to you,

they all say that I’m crazy to get up and leave just like that
but I told them it’s just 4,000 miles
and I was willing to do that

I, I'm bringing home to you,
cause you’re the only for me
and maybe you
I, I'm changing skies for you
but you'll never know how much I've missed you”

I continued the song, it was my favorite by Automatic Loveletter, but it was Juliet who made it special. I finished the song and had collected a small crowd of staff and fans. No one clapped of cheered, so I continued to my own song.

“It’s not like I wake in the morn’
Ready to make you feel terrible
I’m not that type of person
You of all should know
My heart is just as torn
My hear is just as torn

It’s not my fault, I just can’t stop
The bubbly seems to be shinning through
He makes me feel better
I feel, oh yeah, I feel
I feel like I’m on top of the world.

I’m not sorry that I’m happy
Don’t try to get your word in
I said don’t try and get our word in
Don’t get all crazy
Ain’t no way you’re going to faze me,
You didn’t give your best
I told you there’s nothing left.

He’s the perfect man,
He opens doors and holds my hand
He still gets nervous
When trying to impress me
And it’s not my fault you ran
No, it’s not my fault you an

I’m not sorry that I’m happy
Don’t try to get your word in
I said don’t try and get your word in
Don’t get all crazy
Ain’t no way you’re going to faze me,
You didn’t give your best
I told you there’s nothing left.”

The small crowd cheered and clapped, I looked up from the guitar to see Gemini smiling, Jack was appalled and Zack and Rian we ‘woot’ing. I was afraid to look at Alex, so I averted his gaze.
