Worth The Wait

CH 17

“I’ll see ya later man,” Sid yelled at Jordan as he walked out of the locker room. The Penguins had just victoriously wrapped up a game against the Islanders, each guy scoring a goal.

“Wait, wait up!” Jordan hollered as he ran to catch up to Sidney. “Damn Crosby, we just kicked ass and you’re just trying to sneak out of here and go home already? You don’t want to go celebrate or drinking or anything? Maybe pick up a chick and get laid already?”

Sid let out a sigh. He hadn’t been up to doing much lately, he was perfectly content staying home by himself and that angered him but he didn’t want to change it. “Nah man, I’m good. I don’t feel like getting bum rushed tonight.”

“Dude, come on. She’s been gone for almost a month now. She isn’t coming back.” Sid winced at his friend’s words. He tensed up and turned his face in an attempt to hide his feelings but Jordan saw right through it. “I’m sorry,” his tone softened. “I just hate to see you so miserable.”

“I’m fine Staal. Seriously,” Sid bitterly let out a laugh.

“Look, I know what today is. Alright? I know she had her bridal shower thing or whatever girls do when they’re almost married today. And I just thought that it’d be a good idea for you to get out.”

“Who told you?”

“Letang.”

“Why? What the fuck? Did you two turn into gossip queens?”

“No asshole. He knew you talked to Briere. I’m assuming his wife was invited to Phoebe’s shower thing and Briere was just giving you a head’s up. Am I right?”

When Sid didn’t reply Jordan took his silence as overwhelming proof that he was right. “Yeah, that’s what I thought.” Jordan took a deep breath and felt sympathy for his hurting friend. “I’m sorry man, I really am. Look, what do you want to do tonight? We’ll do it.”

Sid looked at him as if to thank him for his support. “Thanks man, but I just want to go home.”

“Okay.” If time was what Sid needed, Jordan would let him deal with it.

Sid walked through his door and threw down his stuff. He plopped down on the couch and let out a deep breath. He hadn’t really left his couch the past few weeks; he was still shell-shocked from everything that had happened and how quickly it all changed. He sat up, rested his elbows on his knees and dropped his head into his hands. He pulled at his hair in frustration thinking about Phoebe at her bridal shower for a wedding that didn’t include him. He couldn’t believe she actually was going through with this…after everything they’d talked about. After everything they’d been through. He sat up again and shook his head as if to shake away all the thoughts. All the memories. He stood up, went to his bedroom and changed then walked into the kitchen so that he could heat something up to eat only to sit back down on the couch and fall asleep to his dvd’s of Entourage.

Sid downed the pizza that he made for himself and was ready to get comfortable when he heard someone banging on his door. He sighed. “Fuck Jordan,” he said under his breath. He thought that he’d made it perfectly clear he had no interest in doing anything tonight. He got to the door and forced himself to open it.

“What is this?!” Sid was paralyzed when he saw a very angry Phoebe standing in front of him, and even more speechless when she pushed passed him into his home. “What the hell is this?” she screamed again.

Sid turned around and closed the door, shutting both of them in the same room. He couldn’t take his eyes off her. She was wearing a black chiffon dress cut above the knees that did a very good job of showing off her legs and subtly her chest. He could see her breasts, the way the cut of the dress hugged her top and emphasized it as her chest rapidly rose and fell due to her heavy breathing. He’d never seen her look as beautiful, the black, empire waist dress caused him to forget to breathe.

Phoebe threw the phallic object at Sid. It missed him and hit the wooden door and when it hit the floor it started vibrating.

“Oh! Great! That stupid appalling thing turned on again! Yeah, you wanna know something hilarious?” her sarcasm was apparent. “On my drive down here I hit a speed bump and that…thing turned on! I’m driving down the highway with this plastic penis shaking around my passenger seat and I’m trying to figure out how to shut it off without people looking at me like I’m crazy!”

Sid couldn’t help but let a little smile spread across his face. Her story was amusing to him and he couldn’t lie, he had every intention of pissing her off when he sent her that part of his gift to her.

“I’m glad that this is entertaining for you,” she spat at him.

“Woah, calm down. First off, don’t get pissed at me. What the hell are you even doing here? Don’t you have a fiancé waiting for you in Philly and a pending wedding in a few weeks to prepare for?”

“I came here to throw that at you and ask why you sent it.”

“Why did I send it? Because clearly he isn’t satisfying you. If he was then you wouldn’t have been here, in Pittsburgh, fucking me.”

She shook her head in disgust. “Oh shut up. You don’t even know what you’re talking about!”

“Really? I don’t know what I’m talking about? That’s interesting because that’s exactly what happened.”

“No. It isn’t!”

“Really? Then what happened? Because the last time I saw you we were in bed together and you told me you loved me. I guess that was just because I could actually give you an orgasm. You told me you were going there and breaking up with him and the next thing I know that pussy’s face is blasting on the tv telling me that not only did you not break up with him, but you’re getting married in two months!” Sid couldn’t help screaming at her.

“That isn’t what happened! You wouldn’t believe me if I told you so I just let you give up. I didn’t think you would ever forgive me-“

“Yeah you’re damn right,” he interrupted.

“Would you let me finish?” she screamed. “I didn’t have anything to do with that! I got your text as I was walking in my house! I didn’t even know why you were so angry with me…then everyone bombarded me and Mike showed me what he said on the DVR. I had no clue Sid! None! When I saw what he said and I realized that’s why you said what you said to me I just broke down and gave up.”

Sid didn’t say anything. His heart was racing and his mind was bouncing all over the place. “Is this true?” his breathing was heavy and his body was numb.

“Yes it’s true. I didn’t think you’d ever believe me…I didn’t think you’d ever forgive me. I wanted to be here with you for Christmas. I didn’t ask for anything he said, he did it all on his own because he knew I was going to break up with him. When I saw your text…” she started to get choked up, “I- I knew you’d never want to see me again so I just figured I’d settle for…” she trailed off and looked down at the ground.

Sid stared at her in shock. He didn’t know what to say to her. Suddenly Phoebe raised her head and took her anger out on Sid again as she realized the vibrator was still making noise on the floor. “And you had to send me that disgusting- can you please shut it off! I can’t believe you! Asshole.” She then turned around to hide her face from him and now her back was in his vision.

“I’m the asshole?” he yelled back at her. He picked up the rubber penis that was vibrating on his floor and laughed to himself as he looked at it. He made his way over to Phoebe and placed his free hand lightly on her shoulder. She could feel her body relaxing at his touch.

Both of their breathing was shallow. Sid ran his hand down from her shoulder to her waist. He slightly bent to the side so that he could reach down to the hem of her dress and hike it up. He felt her thigh and slowly traced his way up her leg until he got to her string thong. He played with the almost non-existent fabric that rested on her hips and slowly pulled it down until it fell to her feet. He held the flowy fabric of her dress up so that he could reach his other hand around her front and place the shaking penis that was in his hand between her legs. She leaned her head back. “Oh God,” she moaned.

Sid kissed the side of her neck and she opened her legs enough so that he could slide the phallic object inside her. He slowly slid it in and out of her and he could feel her body shake and hear her moan which was turning him on. He missed her, he missed satisfying her and he knew that she would realize he never really wanted to give up on them if she felt his touch. When he knew she was close to climaxing he pulled the vibrator out of her, turned it off and threw it on the floor. He spun her around by the waist so that she was looking him in the eyes. She looked at him with surprise and disappointed in her eyes. “Don’t worry,” he smiled. “We’re finishing this in my bedroom.”

He crashed his lips down onto hers and they began undressing each other as quickly as possible, rushing to get to Sid’s bed. Phoebe cried out with pleasure when Sid pushed himself into her. God, she missed him. As he continued making love to her she couldn’t believe she’d ever thought it was really over between them. This was the guy she was meant to be with, it was never going to be over. She held onto him tightly and re-familiarized herself with him, with his body. He held her like he didn’t ever want to let her go; with such passion and desperation he had to gasp for breath himself.

After both of them had screamed out in ecstasy and their bodies were exhausted, lying on the bed and looking into Sid’s eyes was too much for Phoebe to handle. She felt tears escaping down her cheek. “What’s the matter?” Sid asked as he wiped the tears off her face with her thumb.

“I love you,” she managed to get the words out without losing her composure.

“And that makes you so upset?” he laughed.

“No, it isn’t that,” she laughed between her tears. “I just didn’t think I’d ever be at this point again. With you. Happy. I’m so sorry Sid,” she lost it again. “I just knew your heart was broken and what Mike said…it was so believable. I didn’t think you’d ever want to hear from me again.”

“Phoebe I love you. It isn’t that simple to just get over you. I was pissed, yeah, but I didn’t mean it when I told you I didn’t want to be part of your life. I just didn’t want you to be part of his.”

“I just don’t get it. You could have any girl you want, be in a normal relationship that isn’t complicated and with someone that hasn’t hurt you the way I know I have. I mean, hell, you’ve got crazy bitches wearing veils to your games with signs begging you to marry them. What makes you so sure that we’ll last?”

Sid couldn’t help but laugh. “Well, first off you hit the nail on the head. Those girls are crazy bitches- and they scare the shit out of me. They don’t know me, they know of me. They’re fanatic about what they think I am, what they want me to be. You knew who I was and made me work anyway. You’re someone who challenged me to be a better person and didn’t even intend to do it. Why didn’t you just tell me what really happened?”

“Because you’d already given up…at least I thought you did. I couldn’t even blame you, and I just, I was falling apart.”

“Why won’t you just let me catch you?”

“What do you mean?”

“I want to be there for you, give me some credit. I told you I’m never going to give up on you. Let me be there for you. I know you aren’t used to the man you are with actually being someone you can depend on but you better get used to it because I’m not going to let you down.”

She smiled at him as the moonlight shined on her soft skin. “I know. I’m sorry I didn’t give you any credit I’m sorry I didn’t fight harder…I’m sorry I didn’t realize…but I promise you I love you. So much.”

In this moment, with their honesty on the table, the way she looked at him and the fact that he knew he finally broke down her walls, Sid loved her more than life itself.

“Okay. I know I’ve tried this before but I’m going to go back to Philly and I’m going to break up with Mike. Finally. Now, regardless of anything you could potentially hear, know that I’m yours and that nothing is going to keep me from coming back to you,” she happily informed him, slightly teasing.

“I promise.”

“By the way, the other stuff you sent me. So beautiful. Why’d you bother though?”

“Well, I don’t know. I just wanted you to be happy…even though it killed me that it wasn’t with me.”

“You had to know somewhere deep inside I’d never be happy without you. At least I hope you did…”

“Oh I knew it. I just needed you to realize it.”

“Ugh,” she put her hand over her face. “When I go back I’ll have to deal with my family…and friends…I don’t know how that’s going to go…and Mike,” she sighed. “I’m afraid he’s going to just kill me or something.

“He wouldn’t dare. I’d kill him. Just go and get back as quickly as you can and if you need anything, I’ll be there as fast as I can be. Everything is going to turn out just fine. We have each other.”

“Yeah, we do don’t we?” a grin spread across her face. She snuggled up closer to him and let him envelope her in his arms.

“Just relax and get some sleep. We’ll figure it all out in the morning. By the way,” Sid said. “I told you I satisfied you,” he teased her.

Her mouth opened wide as she let out a shocked laugh. “I never said you didn’t! I do believe you’re the one who felt like proving otherwise. But, I can’t say I minded,” she teased right back. “I missed you too much.”

“Well,” he turned his head and spoke into her hair. “I guess we’re just perfect for each other.” He kissed the top of her head.

“I love you Sidney,” Phoebe whispered as she fell into a deep sleep.
