Our Time Has Come, and We've Got These Big City Dreams

“Will you,” he said slowly, “come on the tour?”

“With you? Tour?” I asked incredulously.

“Erm…” he scratched his head a little. “Yeah.”

“I. Uh. Well. I mean, you know. I—I—I just—um,” I stammered.

Alex laughed, seemingly amused.

“Well—it’s just—I—What?”

Alex laughed once more. “You know what! Come on! Just say yes!”

I folded my arms across my chest and rubbed my arms as a chilly breeze swept through. “It’s just… I…”

“Hate this town, don’t you?” Alex interrupted my slow thought process. “You can get out.”

“But… school.”

“You can ask for schoolwork. Do the work online. Besides, you’re on break right now, for the holidays, right?”

“Yeah…” I said slowly.

“Okay! Well? What do you say? You’d only miss about a month of school, since our tour will be ending soon.”

“Well… okay!” I finally said.

A wide, slow, sexy smile broke out on Alex’s face. Hell, any smile on his face is sexy.

“On one condition.” I stated firmly.

“Anything,” he promised.

“My best friend, Ellyn. I want her to come.”

He nodded. “Done.”

I smiled. His brown eyes studied me. Something was in the air, something intangible. I felt pressurized. My heartbeat thumped slowly, lazily along, and I felt it, heard it. Alex stood out in sharp contrast to the scenery behind him which was starting to blur. I don’t know who leaned in, maybe he did and I followed, or maybe I had been leaning in the whole time. Our bodies were dangerously, beautifully close, and then his lips were upon mine, and I sighed, my arms circling around his neck, fingers burying into his soft hair. My pulse sped up, still pounding, louder still. His arms wrapped around my waist, pulling me close, so close.

I heard wolf whistles, accompanied by laughter and applause. We broke apart, and leaning against the wall were Jack, Rian, and Zack.

“Oh. ‘Not getting anything’, huh?” Jack grinned, looking at me.

I laughed. I didn’t care. Everything was fine, a rare moment in my life. Perfect. I should have known, should have expected, that the perfect moment would have to end, come crashing down.
