Zack’s POV

“Alright does anyone know why you wear an engagement and wedding ring on your left ring finger?” Ms. Norton asked nobody said anything

“Well it’s said that there is a vein in your left ring finger that runs straight to your heart.” all the girls in the class awed

I guess it’s pretty neat I’m a sucker for stuff like that.

“Mr. Haner are you texting?” Ms. Norton yelled at Brian

“No I don’t even have a phone.” he said

“Well then pay attention.”

Class went on like that for a while kind of stupid really.

“Wow I love these warm-ups I can hide my phone so easy.” Brian said as we walked out of Sociology

“Why do you guys even wear warm-up anyway?” I asked

“We do for games so people know we’re playing. You’re coming tonight right?” Brian asked

“Yeah Matt said he could get me in for free. Wait why do you care?”

“Can’t have Johnny sitting by himself any more.” he said scrubbing my head before walking away

I walked into art and dropped my bag on the table so I could fix my hair.

“What the hell happened to you lose a fight to fan?” Johnny asked

“Brian happened.” I said

“That would explain it.”

“Yep.”

“So are you going to sit with me at the game?”

“Yep sure am.”

“Sweet we have to get chants started.”

“Huh?” I asked

“Chants you know when everyone’s chanting.”

“Ohh yeah.”

“So you in?”

“Hell yeah I’m in.” I said

Me and Johnny sat around talking about the game and things. Every time he would say something it involved Jimmy in some kind a way.

“I don’t know dude but by chance do you have a thing for Jimmy?” I asked

“N-no what w-would make you say that?” he stuttered

“Beside the point you always talk about him you just stuttered when I asked you about it.” I said

“Fine I like him you happy now.”

“Yes I am why don’t you just tell him how you feel.”

“With him being on the basketball team it can’t work that way.”

“Johnny if he feels the same way then I really don’t think it’ll matter.”

“I know it’s just I don’t want to even think about putting him in that situation.” Johnny said looking down

“Johnny I think he feels the same way he always seems to be happier when you’re around and hell I just met you guys yesterday.”

“Do you think I should?” he asked looking back up at me

“I know you should.”

“Alright well let’s go to lunch then.” he said motioning to the clock.

I nodded as me made our way to the cafeteria. Matt and Jimmy were holding four bottles of Coke and four bags of chips.

“Here we went ahead and got you guys food so we didn’t have to wait on you.” Matt said handing me a bottle and bag

“Thanks.” we said as we all made our way out to the spot we were at yesterday

A little way through lunch Johnny ‘left’ something in his locker and needed Jimmy to go with him to get it. Which left me and Matt.

“I came up with a song if you want to see it.” Matt said

“Yea dude let me see.” I said

He dug into his sweatpants pocket pulling out and a folded up piece of paper. He tossed it over to me. I opened it and saw a bunch of scribbles, mark outs, and doodles.

“Sorry I wrote it first block Graphic Arts.” he said

“It’s all good.” I said reading the piece of paper.

The whole time I read it I felt Matt’s eyes starring at me.

“Wow Matt that’s really sweet who’s it for?” I asked handing the paper back to him

“A person.” he said

“Wow they must be very special.”

“I don’t know them very well but they already have my heart.” he said smiling looking down his dimples showing

“That’s so cool Matt I’m glad they make you happy.” I said putting my hand on his shoulder.

“You and me both dude.” he said

“Damn this thing is so hot.” he said pulling his hoodies off leaving him in a black wife beater showing off his muscles and ink

“You’re in Cali its like 70 degrees why the hell do you guys wear sweatpants and hoodies for games. That’s sounds like something I’d wear back in NH.” I said

“I have no idea.”

“Hey can I sit?” Brian asked walking over to us carrying his hoodie

“Yeah dude what’s up you’re usually in the gym shooting?” Matt asked

“Well coach has the baseball meeting to day and they kicked me out for grabbing the rim.” Brian said

“Dude you’re a guard leave the dunking to me and Jim.” Matt said

“I know shut up.”

“Oh yeah here I wrote a song.” Matt said tossing the same piece of paper I just had to Brian

“Dude this sounds cool, but who’s it about?” Brian asked

“Somebody.” Matt said

“And who is this somebody?” Brian asked

“Somebody you know but not going to tell you.” Matt said

“Would all boys interested in trying our for Varsity baseball please report to the auditorium.” We heard over the speakers

“Noob where are you going?” Brian asked as we were all walking to the auditorium

“Baseball meeting same as you.” I said

“You play?” he asked

“Started since I was a freshman.”

“Dude sweet.” Matt said high fiving me

We went in and listened to the coach talk about what he expected and things like that. At the end we all had to sign our names on a list for people trying out. The rest of the day went by uneventful as Brian continued to pick on me and shoved me into another locker. After that I met Matt out by his car.

“Dude you ok?” he asked

“No fucking Brian shoved me into a locker again.”

“I wish he would just leave you alone.” he said

“You and me both.” I said

Matt pulled in front of my house. As I ran in put my bag on the table. I ran in my room changing my clothes and grabbing money for food. I yelled bye to my mom as I ran back out to Matt’s car. We goofed around his house until it was time to go to the game. Matt parked behind the school letting us go in the back so I didn’t have to pay. When we walked in the gym the JV (Junior Varsity) guys were getting ready to head in the locker room for half time.

“MATT, NOOB YOU GUYS ARE FINALLY HERE!” Brian called as me and Matt walked over to their team

“Yeah we just got here.” Matt said climbing up the bleachers sitting next Brian and an empty seat for me.

I climbed up and sat between Matt and Johnny.

“You were right.” Johnny whispered in my ear as he giggled

Then I noticed that he was wearing Jimmy’s hoodie.

“So you guys are dating?” I whispered back he nodded smiling

“Come on guys.” Brian said getting up the team following

“See ya after the game.” Matt said before walking off

“The JV games are always boring but the Varsity get pretty interesting.” Johnny said I nodded

After the JV game was over and the other team came out. Metallica, Enter Sandman started playing as our team ran out. Me and Johnny jumped to our feet cheering as they ran out. Matt was right they all look weird wearing their jerseys. After the twenty minutes warm-ups were up introduction for the other team was called out.

“Now make some noise for your team.” the announcer called out again me and Johnny were on our feet cheering.

“Senior Point guard #20 Dylan Painter. At Shooting Guard Senior #22 Dakota Wolf.” he called out as two guys ran out

“Senior Small Forward #34 Brian Haner.” he called out as Brian ran out he looked up at me and Johnny giving us a thumbs up.

“Senior Power Forward #44 Jimmy Sullivan.” Jimmy ran out waving at Johnny

“Senior Center #50 Matt Sanders.” Matt ran out smirking at me before the whole team ran out getting in a huddle.

During the game the other team kept fouling us and fouling hard with no calls being made

“I’m Blind, I’m Deaf I wanna be a ref. I’m Blind, I’m Deaf I wanna be a ref.” Johnny started chanting after Jimmy got knocked to the floor

“No Johnny where I come from we chant. NUTS AND BOLTS, NUTS AND BOLTS, NUTS AND BOLTS. WE GOT SCREWED!” I yelled everyone joining in when Matt got thrown into the wall.

After the game we won barely. Everyone left as me and Johnny waited on the guys. Jimmy walked out holding a bag of ice to his shoulder. Matt had a band aid on his cheek. And Brian had a cut on his arm that was patched up.

“Damn you guys got thrown around.” I said

“Yeah we did thank god tomorrow’s Saturday I’m not going to be able to move tomorrow.” Matt groaned

“Yeah dude hey I’m having a party tomorrow anyone can come.” Brian said

“Alright dude band practice Sunday.” Matt said as we went our separate ways.

“Are you ok?” I asked Matt when we got to his car.

“Sore but good thanks.”

Matt drove me to my house waiting before I got out.

“Call if you need anything.” I said

“I will you up for Brian’s party?” he asked

“Sure are you.”

“I’ll drive us see ya tomorrow.”

“Yea see ya.” I said turning to go into my house what along day.
