She's a Lady

Thunder

“Hey Mel.” He whispered. I should have responded but I just stood there staring.

“Mel, are you okay?” Val asked from the couch.

“Yeah, I’m fine. It’s nice to see you Zack.” I forced out as I was still stunned at how he looked now. Those eyes are the same that hypnotized me two years ago. I wrote a song about it and had my friend Martin and his band play it. The song is called Thunder. I do the female version sometimes but that’s beside the point. I suddenly heard a guitar playing and I turned to look at Brian who had an acoustic and was fooling around with it. Johnny who noticed what I was looking at asked,

“Do you play?”

“Yeah, Acoustic, Electric, Bass, and Drums.”

“PLAY SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Jimmy shouted from the couch.

“Yeah, I haven’t heard you sing in AGES!” Michelle said from beside Brian.

“YOU SING TOO?” Jimmy shouted again.

“Great Michelle, give him something else and he might explode.” Misty said from beside me handing me the guitar. I put the strap over my head and thought for a moment.

“HURRY UP!!!!” Jimmy shouted.

“Calm down you might have a heart attack.” I retorted.

“If you want I’ll sing with you, if you want.” Misty said from beside me.

“I’m okay for now. We can duet later if you want.” I said strumming the intro for the song.

“I wrote this one so no making fun of me.” I said looking at Michelle and Val. They raised their hands in surrender.

“Alright, this is thunder.

“•Today is a winding road that's taking me to places that I didn't want to go
Whoa (whoa, whoa, whoa)
Today in the blink of an eye
I'm holding on to something and I do not know why
I tried

I tried to read between the lines
I tried to look in your eyes
I want a simple explanation
For what I'm feeling inside
I gotta find a way out
Maybe there's a way out

Your voice was the soundtrack of my summer
Do you know you're unlike any other?
You'll always be my thunder, and I said
Your eyes are the brightest of all the colors
I don't wanna ever love another
You'll always be my thunder
So bring on the rain
And bring on the thunder

Today is a winding road
Tell me where to start and tell me something I don't know
Whoa (whoa, whoa, whoa)
Today I'm on my own
I can't move a muscle and I can't pick up the phone
I don't know (I don't know, I don't know, I don't know)

And now I'm itching for the tall grass
And longing for the breeze
I need to step outside
Just to see if I can breathe
I gotta find a way out
Maybe theres a way out

Your voice was the soundtrack of my summer
Do you know you're unlike any other?
You'll always be my thunder, and I said
Your eyes are the brightest of all the colors
I don't wanna ever love another
You'll always be my thunder
So bring on the rain

Yeah I'm walking on a tightrope
I'm wrapped up in vines
I think we'll make it out
But you just gotta give me time
Strike me down with lightning
Let me feel you in my veins
I wanna let you know how much I feel your pain

Today is a winding road that's taking me to places that I didn't want to go
Whoa

Your voice was the soundtrack of my summer
Do you know you're unlike any other?
You'll always be my thunder, and I said
Your eyes are the brightest of all the colors
I don't wanna ever love another
You'll always be my thunder
So bring on the rain
And bring on the thunder, and I said

Your voice was the soundtrack of my summer
Do you know you're unlike any other?
You'll always be my thunder
So bring on the rain
Oh baby bring on the pain
And listen to the thunder
” I sang and the last chords rang through the silent room.

“Whoa. You wrote that?” Val gasped.

“Yeah. My friend Martin recorded it with his band. I thought it would sound better with a guy voice but I produced it.” I said sheepishly

“You’ve matured from your old songs M.” Michelle complemented smiling at the memory.

“Yeah I have to admit, those did suck.” I laughed at the memory. I’ve been writing songs since I could write. Seriously, in preschool I really did write songs.

“What band is this ‘Martin’ in?” Val asked curious.

“Oh you’re gonna make me think now. Boys like girls.” I said.

“I see.” She said.

“DO ANOTHER!!!!!!!” Jimmy yelled.

“Fine, fine. Misty do you want to duet with me for this one?” I asked.

“Sure. We’ll be right back. Brian we’re using your music room and you can’t do anything
about it. MATT SIT!” She said then yelled as Matt came to follow her. He sat.

“Good boy.” She said patting his head like a dog. Matt pouted. She giggled. He grinned. I grabbed her arm and dragged her away toward the hallway. She started walking away from Matt and opened a black door with the words ‘Bat Country enter at your own risk’

“This is the music room. The guitars are over there.” She said picking up the acoustic laying on the couch. I opened the door to the closet to see about 50 guitars hanging up or on stands.

“Hmm I wonder if he plays guitar?” I said sarcastically to myself. I picked up a random acoustic and walked back into the room and heard her play the beginning of a song. I stood by the door and listened.

I couldn't tell you why she felt that way,
She felt it everyday.
And I couldn't help her,
I just watched her make the same mistakes again.

What's wrong, what's wrong now?
Too many, too many problems.
Don't know where she belongs, where she belongs.
She wants to go home, but nobody's home.
It's where she lies, broken inside.
With no place to go, no place to go to dry her eyes.
Broken inside.

Open your eyes and look outside, find the reasons why.
You've been rejected, and now you can't find what you left behind.
Be strong, be strong now.
Too many, too many problems.
Don't know where she belongs, where she belongs.
She wants to go home, but nobody's home.
It's where she lies, broken inside.
With no place to go, no place to go to dry her eyes.
Broken inside.

Her feelings she hides.
Her dreams she can't find.
She's losing her mind.
She's fallen behind.
She can't find her place.
She's losing her faith.
She's fallen from grace.
She's all over the place.
Yeah,oh

She wants to go home, but nobody's home.
It's where she lies, broken inside.
With no place to go, no place to go to dry her eyes.
Broken inside.

She's lost inside, lost inside...oh oh yeah
She's lost inside, lost inside...oh oh yeah’

I made my presence known and gave her a hug and she rushed to wipe her tears.

“Did you write that?” I asked softly.

”Yeah, I wrote it for one of my friends, she recently committed suicide.” Misty said. I gave her another hug and grabbed one of the picks from the pick fan on the table. Only Brian would
have a pick fan.

“Have you heard Wine Red by The hush?” I asked.

“Yeah, do you want to do that one?” she asked.

“Sure, do you know the guitar part?” I asked.

“Yeah I can do that if you do the piano part on the guitar.” She said.

“Yeah I can manage.” I said strumming the part.

“Good. Since they’re probably listening through the door we shouldn’t sing it together yet.” Misty suggested.

“Yeah you’re right. Well let’s go entertain them before Jimmy hurts himself.” I said and
heard the muffled shuffling of feet when we finished the conversation. We walked down the hall and saw them all lounging around flipping through the channels on the TV.

“YAY YOU’RE DONE!!! Play now missies.” Jimmy commanded. Brian looked up and rolled his eyes at Jimmy and motioned for us to sit next to him on the couch.

“Just play the song. He’ll find something new and interesting soon.” Brian whispered in my ear. I discreetly nodded. Matt was looking at Misty with wonder dancing around in his hazel eyes. I looked over at Misty and saw her looking at Matt intently. I think they like each other. I got Leana’s attention and looked between the two again mouthing, do they like each other. Leana smiled and nodded. I started the piano part on the guitar and sang the first verse.

Who shot that arrow in your throat?
Who missed the crimson apple?
It hung heavy on the tree above your head
This chaos, this calamity, this garden once was perfect
Give your immortality to me; I'll set you up against the stars

Gloria,
We lied, we can't go on
This is the time and this is the place to be alive

Who shot that arrow in your throat?
Who missed the crimson apple?
And there is discord in the garden tonight

The sea is wine red
This is the death of beauty
The doves have died
The lovers have lied

I cut the arrow from your neck
Stretched you beneath the tree
Among the roots and baby's breath
I covered us with silver leaves

Gloria,
We lied, we can't go on
This is the time and this is the place to be alive

The sea is wine red
This is the death of beauty
The doves have died
The lovers have lied

The sea is wine red
This is the death of beauty
The doves have died
The lovers have lied

The sea is wine red (Gloria, we lied)
This is the death of beauty (this is the time and place)
The doves have died (Gloria, we lied)
The lovers have lied (this is the time and place)

“Good job! That was great!” Brian complemented.

“Thanks. Hey Misty, I used to work at a recording studio in New York, they have another office in L.A. if you want to record that one.”

“Sure.” She said and sat beside Matt when Johnny was putting the guitars away. Zack gave Matt a warning glare. Ahh that’s why they’re not dating.

“You were really good, Mel.” Zack said sincerely. I looked him in the eyes and immediately regretted it. I got lost in the depths of his green orbs and he just stared back with the same intensity.
