Love Makes Blind

Elia didn’t say anything after her outburst. She sat with her arms crossed tightly over her chest. Paul stood leaning against the wall opposite her with his own arms crossed over his chest.
“You’re being childish.” Paul had fought with her for the last hour trying to talk some sense into her. But Elia was determined to stay in Parghelia.
“Na-duh; I’m just a kid.” Elia said stubbornly.
“For god’s sake!” Paul said and pushed away from the wall. “I don’t even know why you are acting this way!”

“Isn’t it obvious?” Elia asked. “You don’t want me anymore because I’m blind. Isn’t that why you haven’t even touched me since I woke up?”
Paul hadn’t really touched Elia since she was brought into the hospital. He fell silent.
“You don’t even deny or explain it…”
He sighed and knew he had to explain. Paul walked over to her bed and sat down beside her in her bed and tried to pull her onto his lap but Elia pushed him away so he nearly fell off the bed.
“I don’t want you to touch me just because you feel pity for me.” Her voice was dark.

“Can’t you understand how much I hate myself for not saving you? I basically just stood there doing nothing as he clawed you. I even let him go after you when I knew he was a shape-shifter. I was to stunned that other packs existed and I was afraid to reveal that I and Leah was shape-shifters too.” Paul tried to explain. “I’m afraid to touch you because you are right, it could have been me that hurt you, and I still can.” He grabbed her hand and held it against his fast beating heart.
“No you can’t. I didn’t mean it.” Elia said silently and twined her fingers with Paul.

“I love you Elia, please don’t make me leave you.” Paul begged her.
Elia shook her head. “But I don’t want you to be with me if you can’t accept my blindness.”
“I just have to get used to it again. But hey, they said it is probably just temporarily.”
“Don’t get your hopes up.” Elia mumbled.
“I love you.” Paul repeated and bent down and pressed his lips hard against Elia’s.

Elia was dazed at first but was quick to put a hand on his neck to pull him as close as possible and making sure he couldn’t get away.
“We’ll work through this.” Paul said out of breath as his mouth still lingered over Elia’s mouth.
“I love you Paul.” Elia said before pressing her lips against his again.

Elia agreed to go back to La Push. She was exhausted when Paul carried her upstairs and into her bedroom. Elia was half asleep but she still felt the empty feeling knowing her mother wasn’t there. She soothed her own mind knowing she, Darin and Leah would move to a smaller apartment before the school started again.

“Are you staying with me?” Elia slurred as Paul placed her softly on her bed.
“I have to go talk to Sam, about everything that happened, you know.” He started removing her clothes and helped her into her PJ's. He tried to ignore the big bandage over her ribs.
Elia frowned. “Come back as soon as you can.”
“I’ll be here tomorrow morning.” Paul kissed her temple.
“You need rest too, my superman.” Elia smiled.
He chuckled and pulled the covers over her. “Good night, monster, sleep well.”

Paul closed the door quietly behind him because Elia was already asleep. He waited at the front door for Leah; she would have to talk to Sam as well, seeing that she had other perspectives of what happened.
“You ready?” he asked her and opened the door.
Leah smiled and walked ahead of him. “I’m glad you worked things out with Elia, I was starting to get worried.”
Paul put his arm over Leah’s shoulder. “I want to thank you for being there to stop me. I would have killed him.”
“Am I the only one that thinks this thing is weird, me and you talking like regular people? It is so strange that I don’t want to tip your hand of anymore.” Leah said and leaned a little against Paul; she was exhausted.

Paul laughed. “Trust me; it scares the living shit out of me.”
Leah hit him in the gut and the two of them were laughing as they walked into Sam and Emily’s house. The pack looked weirdly at the two hotheads walking beside each other laughing and with smiles on their faces. They looked like best friends.
