The Life I Never Knew I Had

The Life I Never Knew I Had Chapter 11

“I got to go” I said quickly as I got up.
I ran out of the break room and found Doctor Martin rushing down the hallway.
I caught up with him. “What happened?”
“A man had a heart attack, we have to hurry” he said.
A heart attack?! Oh gosh, this is my first really emergency!
I quickly followed Doctor Martin into the room where the man was.
He was hooked up to a breathing tank and the little monitor next to him was beeping at a steady rate.
I followed Doctor Martin’s orders and together with the help of two other nurses we managed to save him.
He was more that grateful.
I was really happy I was able to save someone to day.
I walked around with Doctor Martin and checked on his patients.
“Doctor Martin! We need you in the delivery room,” a nurse said.
We both rushed to the delivery room.
There was a woman and her husband in the room.
The woman was getting ready to give birth to her baby. Her husband was smiling and holding her hand.
Doctor Martin put on his gear and I did the same.
After checking to make sure she was ready to have the baby, we got started.
My job was help Doctor Martin and tell the Woman, Jane Hampton, that she’s doing a good job or push a little harder.
After about fifteen of this, Doctor Martin realized that something wasn’t right.
“There seems to be something wrong with the delivery,” he said. “They baby seemed to be growing in the wrong area. We can do two things. Save the baby or save your wife,”
Mr. Hampton looked torn. “Save the baby” Jane whispered. “Be a father, John,”
“It’s now or never, Mr. Hampton” Doctor Martin said.
I felt a small tear fall now my check.
John squeezed his wife’s hand. “Save the baby, please,” he said.
“Okay, let’s do this, Jennifer” Doctor Martin said.
The baby was born a few minutes later, she was a beautiful baby girl. She looked like her mother.
“Take care of the baby,” Doctor Martin ordered as he rushed over to Jane.
He was trying to save her life as well.
I took care of the baby and rushed over to Doctor Martin once I was done.
Jane had on a breathing mask to help her breath the small monitor next to her was beeping normally. She seemed to be okay.
“Mr. Hampton,” Dr. Martin called him outside. “Your wife should be okay, if she’s luck she should have two or so day or be perfectly fine. If luck’s not her side, she might have a few hours. Your baby is healthy, would you like to hold her?”
Mr. Hampton was crying now, he just nodded his head. I held back my tears and got his baby girl.
He took her in his arms carefully. “Thank you” he whispered. “She’s beautiful she looks just like her mother,” He said.
He smiled at us again and took her into the room, whispering ‘I love you’ over and over again.
“Doctor Martin?”
“Yes?”
“How do you do your job?” Tears were starting to escape.
“I just know everything will be okay and if not…we have to move on” he said.
I nodded my head. “Okay,” I wrapped my arms around myself for comfort.
“Come here” Doctor Martin said leading me to his office.
Once we were in there he gave me a hug, to comfort me.
I cried into his chest for what seem like forever.
After a while I stopped.
“You okay now?” he asked
“Yeah, thanks”
“No problem. It’s time for you to go” he said looking at his watch.
“Okay,” I said whipping my tears away.
I left his office and walked into the bathroom.
I looked into the mirror. I looked like I’ve been crying.
I washed my face and fixed my make up.
I took out my ponytail and left the bathroom.
I grabbed my things and left the hospital.
“Bye Jenny!” I heard James, Morgan and Suzy yell to me.
I waved to them and continued to walk over to Ryan.
“Hey,” I said to him.
“What’s wrong?” he asked.
“What? Nothing” I said picking up the helmet.
“Tell me,” he said.
“Just a hard day,”
“Was it that doctor guy?”
“No,”
“Then what is it?”
“I…I…someone could have died today” the tears started to flow away.
“I’m sorry” he said giving me a hug.
“It’s fine, lets just go home,”
“Okay. I’ll cancel your training for today,”
“Thank you” I said as he speed off.
****
I lied on my bed and tried to do my homework.
Someone knocked on my door.
“Come in” I said not looking up.
“Hey princess” Elliott said.
“Hey,” I said facing him.
“Ryan told me you had a hard day at work,”
“Yeah,”
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah,”
He kissed my cheek. “Good”
I smiled at him.
“Dinner’s ready”
“Okay,” I said standing up.
Elliott and I walked into the dinning room hand in hand.
There was no dinner conversation, I was really staring to miss my family…
Oh wait!
Antonio slipped something in my pocket.
With my free hand I felt my pocket.
It was still in there.
After dinner, Damien called a family meeting, which I was not invited to.
But I used this time to figure out what was put in my pocket.
I stood in the middle of my room and slowly opened the folded piece of paper.
Hope you liked it!
