The Life I Never Knew I Had

The Life I Never Knew I Had Chapter 20

“Princess,” someone said shaking my shoulder.
“Not now…” I muttered rolling over so my back was facing then.
I heard them sigh and walk around the bed.
I mentally rolled my eyes and wished them away.
I felt warm lips on mine and I smiled.
Ryan.
I kissed back and wrapped my arms around him.
He pulled away abruptly. “Wake up”.
“Five more minutes,” I pleaded.
“You need to have your dress refitted and pick out your bridesmaid dresses,”
“Ugh!” I said covering my head with my pillow.
“You really don’t want to get married,”
“If it was only that simple,” I said looking at him.
He gave me a sad smile. “Come on. For me?”
“For you,” I said getting up.
I walked into my bathroom and turned on the water.
I took a quick shower and dried off.
I pulled on my robe and walked over to my closet.
After moments of looking at my clothes I deiced to wear the blue sun dress.
I slipped it on and put my hair in a bun then headed down stairs.
Eugene had my breakfast out and ready for me.
I thanked him and sat down and eat with myself.
“Hey lady,” Shelby said smiling at me.
“Why the big smile?” I asked.
“Wedding planning,” she said sitting down. “I thought I’ll join you,”
“Thanks,” I smiled. “Have you seen Elliott?” I asked.
“Not since last night,”
“Same here,” I said as Ryan walked down stairs running his hand through his hair.
“Have you seen your brother?” Shelby asked.
“He’s talking to dad,”
“Oh,” I said finishing up my breakfast.
Ryan, Shelby, and I walked to the wedding hall then went our separate ways.
Elliott was there and he seemed to be fuming.
“Hey,” I said smiling.
“Oh, hi,” he said.
“What’s up?” I asked wrapping my arms around him.
“My father will never understand. I want to tell you something…”
“Tell me,” I said looking him in the eyes.
“I can’t and for that I’m so sorry,”
I kissed him. “Whatever it is, things will work out. I promise,” Elliott hugged me and rested his head on my shoulder. “I love you Elliott, always have,” I lied.
“I love you too,” he said. I could hear the smile on his voice.
“Okay, Jen, let’s get you in your dress with hair and makeup. Elliott in your tucks and I think you need a hair cut, no,” Sebastian said breaking up our little moment.
The maids took me away and into the back room.
I changed into the proper undergarments before the maids helped me into my dress.
They made little adjustments before helping me in my heels.
“You look wonderful,” they said.
I smiled at my refection.
“Thanks,” I said.
“Ready for hair and make up?” they asked.
“Do I have a choice?” I asked them stepping out of my heels.
They helped me out of my dress and left me to finish getting changed.
Once I was dressed I joined them over by hair and make up.
They gave me a little hair cut and blow dried it.
“How do you want your hair for the wedding?” one of them asked me.
“Nothing too fancy…how about an elegant bun?” I asked.
The two ladies nodded and went to work.
“And your make up?” the other two asked.
“Not too much, just enough to know that I’m wearing something,”
They nodded their heads and went to work.
Moments later they spun me around and I looked at my reflection.
“Beautiful, ladies,” I said smiling.
“Thank you,” they said.
They undid my hair and took off most of the make up.
“All done?” Elliott asked.
“Yup,” I said smiling at him.
“Okay,” Sebastian said. “Your wedding is in six weeks. The save the dates went out last night. Now on to the cake testing,” and with that a full cart of cakes were pushed into the wedding hall.
My mouth watered at the sight of them all.
“I love cake,” I said and Elliott smiled and kissed my cheek.
We tried them all and we decided on the cream cheese with the red velvet cake.
Afterwards we choose the drinks and meals.
This took up most of our Saturday but I didn’t minded.
I came to the conclusion that I did love Elliott just not in a romantic way.
Maybe I’ll learn to love him like that.
Afterwards Elliott hung out with me in my room as I did my school work and filled out some papers for Doctor Drew.
******
The weekend sped by and it was Monday morning.
I had another intense workout with Lance and Ryan before school.
I had a half a day at school today.
I had to see my teachers and check in with them.
They were pleased that things were going well with Doctor Drew.
I handed in my homework as well.
At the hospital I followed Doctor Drew around as usual.
He had me very hands on today.
“You think too much,” he told me once we left a patients room.
“What do you mean?”
“You know what you’re doing but you’re afraid that you don’t causing you to move slowly. You’re smart Jen; why else would I have picked you?”
“Pretty looks,” I joked.
“That’s one of them,” he said looking over a chart.
I blushed and looked away. “So, where else?” I asked.
“Room 203, you’ll be delivering a baby, today,”
“What?”
“Don’t freak out, remember, your know what your doing,”
Doctor Drew lead me to the elevator and we walked into the small space.
As he gave me a quick run down on what’s going to happen as he pressed the bottom.
The elevator took us down and we quickly headed to room 203.
I felt myself shaking as we walked in.
I check Mrs. Evergreen to see if she was ready.
“Okay, Mrs. Evergreen I said, you’re only six centimeters. In about an hour or so you should be ready. I’ll be back then. How are you?” I asked looking at her and her husband.
“Good,” she said breathing heavily.
I smiled. “Hang in there,” I said as I followed Doctor Drew out of the room.
“See, not that bad,”
“No,” I said. “What if I have to do a C-section?” I asked.
“You’ll be fine,” he said touching my shoulder. “You saw me perform one the other day”.
“But I’m the one doing the cutting,”
“You’ll be fine. I’ll be there to help you,”
I exhaled and nodded my head.
“Let’s continue our rounds,” he said leading the way.
An hour or so later we hurried back to Mrs. Evergreen’s room and I checked the screen and she was eight centimeters and wailing in pain.
“Okay, let’s get started,” I said as I grabbed the gloves.
Doctor Drew paged the other nurses and they came in.
Mrs. Evergreen’s mom came in the room to hold her other hand.
The other nurses helped her feet up and Doctor Drew stood next to me as we both got ready.
“You got this,” he whispered.
I nodded my head and took a deep breath. “Okay, Mrs. Evergreen, I need you to take a deep breath and when you exhale push,”
She nodded her head and did that.
She repeated her actions and I encouraged her.
“You’re doing an amazing job,” I said.
“Just a little more,” Doctor Drew said lowering my hands.
Seconds later I saw the head of the baby.
My face lit up. “I see the head,” I said grinning.
Mrs. Evergreen started to cry along with her mother.
“Your almost done, keep breathing keep pushing,” I said.
The Evergreens baby slowly fell into my hands and Doctor Drew help guide it out.
“One more big push,” he said.
Mrs. Evergreen gave us all she had left and her baby’s cries filled the room.
One of the nurses cut off the umbilical cored and took the baby from me.
I look at Mrs. Evergreen and smiled. “Nice job. Congratulations,”
“Thank you,” she breathed smiling at her husband.
“Here is your baby boy,” one of the nurses said to the family.
They smiled and took the baby boy from the nurse.
I smiled and followed the nurses out of the room and closed the door.
I took off my mask and grinned at them. “I did it!”
They all laughed and gave me high fives.
“Nice job in there,” doctor drew said. “You’re free to go,”
“Thanks,” I said heading to the back room to change.
I quickly changed and headed to the parking lot.
“Jenny!” James called.
“Hey,” I said smiling. “Guess what?” I asked.
“What?” Morgan asked.
“I delivered a baby today,” I said grinning.
I told them what happened and they were happy for me.
We chatted until Ryan came by.
“Is he single?” Suzy asked me in a whisper.
I laughed. “Bye guys,”
“Later,” they called.
“Hey,” I smiled.
“Get on,” he said.
I took his helmet and got on the bike.
He took off and headed toward the forest.
Once here Lance helped me in the helicopter and flew the three of us home.

After dinner I spent the rest of the night copped up in my room doing work.
Elliott was pretty steamy after another argument with his dad.
I told him to go cool off and we spent the rest of the night apart.
That was basically how my week went.
On Friday night I was sitting in my room watching some T.V when Ryan walked into my room, fuming.
“Are you okay?” I asked turning it off.
“I can’t take it anymore!” he whispered harshly. “You have to know,”
“Know what?” I asked sitting up.
Ryan sat down and took my hands. He sighed and looked me in the eyes. “The truth”.
