Meanwhile, Blaze and Gary have passed Cerulean City and are in Vermillion City now. Blaze has captured a wild Gloom, a Sandshrew that has recently evolved into a Sandslash, and a Growlithe. They both take on the Vermillion City Gym with ease, and Gary captures a Nidorino in the grass outside the city. At this moment, a wild Drowzee appears.

“Let me battle it, so my Gloom can gain some experience!” Blaze says, looking at Gary for a moment before turning toward the Drowzee with a Pokeball in her hand. Gary looks at her and nods.

“Go, Gloom! Use Acid!” Blaze commands as she throws her Pokeball. The Gloom appears through the light of the Pokeball and spits Acid at the Drowzee. It retaliates with a disable.

“Damn! Okay, Stun Spore!” Blaze shouts. The Gloom lets loose its Stun Spore, paralyzing the Drowzee.

“Nice! Now, Mega Drain!” Blaze commands. The Drowzee faints after getting hit with the Mega Drain. Gloom turns to Blaze and smiles. She recalls it to its Pokeball. Blaze celebrates her win by giving Gary a big hug. He hugs her back, and they take off on their journey again.
