Our Heat Is Gone

Twelve.

As I stepped into the bus that belonged to The Downtown Fiction, I figured I’d probably take a nap or play games or do anything that would kill time before the boys played and for the long day ahead of me. It was the first day of the tour and as much as I was excited on the inside, I knew I had to tone it down or else I’d have an anxiety attack or something.

Believing that I was going to be alone on the bus, it startled me when I saw David, who plays bass in the band, walk out from the back.

“Holy shit, David! You scared me.” I said placing my hand on above chest.

“Haha, I’m not that unappealing, you know.” He said in sarcasm.

“You know what I meant, loser.” I replied and shoved him a little.

David definitely was like my older brother. The sibling I never had. He and I joked around way too much and loved to just make fun of each other. He was actually the last of the boys I had met when Cameron introduced me to his friends, seeing is that David was the latest addition to The Downtown Fiction at the time.

I was beginning to make my way towards the bunk area until I wondered why David was still here.

“Hey, aren’t you suppose to be on stage helping the rest of the guys set up?” I asked.

He made a face before he said: “Eh, yeah, but I’m really lazy right now.” And shrugging after.

“Wow, David.”

“Hey, would you like to do it?”

“Um, no?”

“Exactly.”

I rolled my eyes and changed the subject. “Well whatever. Since you’re here and you aren’t scheduled to play in a while, how about we play some XBOX?”

“Definitely, you don’t even have to ask twice. Anything to kick your ass in.” He said pushing me aside, but with enough force that he sent me to the couch and heading to the back where the entertainment system was set up.

“That’s it Pavluk, you’re going down!” I said getting back up on my feet and following him.

After a couple of rounds of gaming with David, him winning consistently, we eventually had to call a quits and make our way towards the Hurley stage.

“You’re so going to get it when we get there.” I teased as we were a few steps away from everyone else by the stage.

“Shut up, you can’t even last more than five minutes in survival mode of Left 4 Dead.” He came back.

“Um, what does that even have to do with you going to get bitched at by Cameron and Eric?” I said in a matter-of-fact tone.

“It doesn’t, but what I’m trying to imply, somewhere in that statement, was that whenever there is a zombie apocalypse I won’t be there to save your ass.”

“You’re ridiculous.” I said and let it all drop since we finally made our way to Cameron and Eric.

Cameron turned around and smiled as he saw me. He engulfed me in a hug which I returned and kissed his cheek then I let go to greet Eric. I turned around in Cameron’s embrace with his grip still on me it began: “Where the hell were you during set-up, David?” Cameron started.

“Yeah, we had to fix up your shit.” Eric backed up.

A smug smile sprawled across my face as I looked at David. He looked back at me which a nervous expression as he tried to come up with an excuse to tell the guys.

“It’s not my fault!”

“Really?” Cameron challenged.

“Yeah, it’s Lex’s fault!” David blamed and pointed at me. Appalled by his answer, my jaw dropped, and was about to speak until David continued after seeing the unbelieving faces of the guys. “I was on my way out of the bus to the stage to help you guys when Lex walked in and practically begged me to play Left 4 Dead with her. I couldn’t say no either. I mean you know how much she loves to play that game, who knows what she would’ve done with me if I said no. She probably knows more than twenty ways to kill me with Eric’s drumsticks because of that violent game now.”

“What?” I said in shock as I looked up at Cameron. “Can you believe that?” I asked him.

“Well…” Cameron started.

“Cameron.” I warned.

“Okay, I don’t. I don’t. Chill. I know David is lazy. We both know it.”

“But we also know how addicted you are to that game.” Eric commented.

“Thanks.” I replied with not so much enthusiasm.

“So now that you’ve heard my reason, let’s forget it, and play!” David said as he began walking with Eric to the stage trying to avoid even more interrogation.

Cameron dropped his arms that were wrapped around me and I turned around to face him.

“Good luck.” I said sincerely and gave him a smile.

“I’m kind of nervous.” He said honestly.

“Don’t be, you can do this. I know you can. I’ve seen you get out on that stage so many times before this and you always give it your all. You’re going to blow all those kids away.” I reassured him. I knew that Cameron, as much of a carefree person as he was, he had his moments where before he’d go out on stage to a new crowd he would feel as if he couldn’t go through with it, but once he’s finally out there and in stone, ready to play, he had it all down. He and the guys were all able to put on a great show and always left the fans wanting more.

“As long as you’re on the side watching I know everything is going to be okay.” That was too sweet and I couldn’t help, but to bust out a smile. He leaned in and gave me a quick kiss and then he was handed his guitar before making his way up the stage.

As I stood by the side of the stage watching my boyfriend play his heart out. I couldn’t help but feel so overwhelmed. His presence was intoxicating. I was also in awe. I would have never imagined myself with another person and another person as incredible as Cameron Leahy.

The boys finished their set leaving the crowd in a frenzy for more. Their signing wasn’t until 5 PM and they just ended at 3 PM. So we had a lot of time to kill. After they cooled down a bit from their performance and changed clothes considering they had sweated all over it from the California summer heat, we all made our way towards the end of the bus parking lot where various bands that either were not scheduled to play until much later that day or had already played, were hanging around.

I recognized many bands that had previously toured with Cameron and the guys like The Summer Set, Cash Cash, We Are The In Crowd, and bands I haven’t even met, but were great to become aquatinted with like Bring Me The Horizon, Four Year Strong, Motion City Soundtrack, We The Kings, and the list could go on and on. This tour had so many bands I couldn’t even keep up with who was here and who wasn’t. It was just a good feeling to be surrounded by friends and potential new friends.

I stood in the back with Cameron, his arm slung over my shoulder as mine was wrapped around his middle. He would occasionally take a sip out of his beverage from his plastic cup and talk to me about something random. In all honesty, I was getting bored and I couldn’t help but what came over me.

I dropped my hand that was placed on Cameron’s hip and then dug it into his back pocket, groping him suddenly. I diverted my eyes up towards him and he started to choke on his drink. He pulled the cup away from his lips and coughed repeatedly. All the while my hand was still grabbing him from behind in his back packet.

“You okay, bro?” David asked suspiciously.

“Yeah, I’m fine.” Cameron assured.

“Don’t choke. It’s only day one of tour, we have a whole summer ahead of us.” He joked and then went back to talking to whoever he was talking to.

Cameron laughed it off and then looked down, shooting me a playful glare. “ What are you doing?” He asked as he removed my hand from his pocket, which I in returned just shoved it back in and groped him once more, causing him to jump slightly. I bit my lip because I was just in the mood at the moment and I was going to do anything to get him in it too. He winced and spoke softly: “Lex, what’s gotten into you?”

I tip-toed to reach his ear and replied in the same tone: “You.”

“Well…” He started, but he couldn’t seem to find the words to answer to that.

“Let’s go back to the bus.” I suggested, taking my hand out of his pocket and grabbing the drink from his hand then placing it on a nearby table. I took his hand and tried to pull him away.

“The signing…”

“Isn’t until 5 and we have over an hour to ourselves.” I finished and kissed him deeply. I pulled away, but not far apart, since our lips were still against each others.

“Fine, let’s go.” He finally gave in and kissed me back with force.

“You guys make me sick sometimes.” We heard David comment in return awarded him a middle finger from me. “Hey, back at cha, sweetheart!” He said and stuck his finger at me. I rolled my eyes, as Cameron announced our departure from the group. “Oh, God, just please don’t touch my shit when you’re done.” David said.

“Just for you, I think we might just accidently step into your bunk.”

“Please don’t.” He begged.

Cameron and I laughed it off and jogged towards their bus. Our minds too clouded with each other, we got lost in the middle of the buses.

“Fuck.” Cameron said with frustration, pulling the ends of his hair. My lip was beginning to ache since I had been chewing on it lately, I giggled at the sight of him. He turned around and looked confused. “What ‘s so funny?”

“You.” I replied and walked closer to him.

“Me?”

“Yes, you’re even more attractive when you’re frustrated.” I said and pushed him against the nearest tour bus and pressed my lips against his. I didn’t want to wait anymore and this area seemed to be seemingly abandoned.

“Am I?” He asked as our lips split from each other’s for a minute.

“Very.” I responded and with a smirk on his face, he ran his hands up and down my sides as mine gripped on the collar of his blue and white plaid shirt, I pulled him in for another kiss. I presented my tongue to his shortly. Neither of us were concerned at the moment on who might walk out of the bus or walk by for that matter. I was beginning to unbutton the buttons on his shirt while my lips still moved in sync with his full ones.

“Whoa, mates you can’t have sex by my bus.” I pulled away from Cameron and peeled him off of the bus he was leaning on.

I didn’t dare look at who had caught us almost in the act. I was embarassed. I just gripped onto Cameron’s hand who just squeezed it in comfort. “Sorry about that, man. We just got lost and well…I’m just sorry.” Cameron tried to apologize.

“It’s aight. Just try to make it next time I guess.” The guy said back not taking any of that personally, which was good because the last thing we wanted was to make enemies on this tour.

“You won’t tell anyone about this right?” Cameron asked.

“Nah, it’s no big deal.” He answered.

It was then that I found that voice extremely familiar and it was going to make me somewhat sick. It was going to be a big thing that it was him that caught Cameron and I.

“Thanks, I’m Cameron from The Downtown Fiction by the way.” Cameron introduced himself and stuck his free hand out to him.

“Nice to meet you, mate. I’m Max from You Me At Six. You’re lady is kind of shy there.” He commented.

“Her? No, she’s not at all. She’s pretty out there. I think she's just embarassed.” He said about me, but I was still somewhat looking away. “Don’t be like that, baby. He said he wasn’t going to tell anyone or anything.” Cameron said nudging me and then picking my head up to face him.

“I can tell.” Max said joking and laughing a bit then it died down when he looked closely at me, his jaw almost dropped. “Lexi?”

I've been pretty pissed off lately. Everyone just seems to want to get me mad and quite frankly I'm sick of crying. On another note, I can't wait until March 15. Why? Well, The Downtown Fiction, that's why.

Come on, tell me you guys love Cameron. I know y'all probably miss Josh, but hey Max is here so Josh will definitely be making an appearance soon. ;) Leave comments on what you think should or will happen because who knows I could totally just change the whole ending to this.
