Sibling Rivalry
Mikey’s POV
Tuesday was a good day for me; I was having lots of good days these days. For the first time since Gabriel and Aiden started school they sat with Frank and I at lunch, I don’t know where they use to sit but I was happy they were with us now. Aiden didn’t talk very much but more than she use to.
“Hello” Gwendolyn greeted all four of us; I didn’t even see her coming towards us
“Hey” Frank and I replied, Gabriel and Aiden just looked up and nodded their heads
“So how are you guys going?” she asked being friendly
“Great” I replied, I must say she was friendlier than Aiden and yet I still liked Aiden more
“I hope my brother and sister aren’t causing you too much trouble” at this both Frank and I looked at each other and laughed, when I looked over to Aiden she was glaring at Gwendolyn
“Trouble right… I don’t think they could cause trouble if they were given a manual” Frank replied sarcastically grinning at both Aiden and Gabriel. Gabriel seemed to find this amusing but Aiden not so much
“Gwendolyn don’t you have somewhere to be” she said to her sister coolly
“No, not really” Gwendolyn replied smug,
“Are you sure?” Aiden asked trying to put doubt in Gwendolyn’s mind
“Yes I’m sure little sister” Gwendolyn chimed, it sounded like she had to remind Aiden that she was younger than her, I don’t think she could forget that, it’s not like any younger sibling could forget that. Aiden backed down and Gwendolyn sat next to me, there was so much tension between the two sisters that I could cut it with a butter knife.
“Oh by the way you guys can call me Gwen,” she said to Frank and I
“Okay, Gwen” I responded, when I did it sounded unnatural and forced I don’t know why because Gwen suited her really well but I think I had gotten use hearing her being called Gwendolyn
“So what did you guys get up to last night?” she asked trying to make conversation, it was becoming very awkward and I don’t think I was the only one to notice
“Um… nothing much, you know homework and stuff” Frank replied, she tilted her head and looked at him puzzled
“Do you live with Mikey and Gerard?” she asked, it’s not an unusual question for us, he practically does
“I may as well I’m there all the time” Frank replied shrugging his shoulders, from beside me Gabriel coughed a little. I knew it was on purpose he then looked to Aiden
“Gwendolyn I think it’s time for you to leave” she said to her, it sounded more like a command than a suggestion
“Do you now?” Gwendolyn raised her eyebrows and then looked from Gabriel to Aiden. She then stood up like she was given a sign
“Well it was nice to get to know you two better, I have to be off now” she said and then looked at Aiden her lips began to move really fast but a sound didn’t come out of them, unless it was just to quiet and fast for us to hear it but that couldn’t be possible
“Leave” Aiden said in a growl, it sounded very similar to the one we had heard last night. Gwendolyn left straight after that, things were silent after that both Frank and I were just staring at Aiden.
Gabriel said something that made Frank and I stop staring at Aiden
“What?” I asked looking at him now
“Have you finished the history homework Mikey?” Gabriel asked me
“Yeah it was pretty easy did you?” I asked him, all the tension from before had dissolved
“Yeah, I really like Victorian England” he replied and then grinned at Aiden like it was a joke or something, Aiden laughed. It was the first time we had ever heard her laugh; it was beautiful, no more than beautiful it was absolutely like-I-was-flying amazing. The bell went then and we had to go to class, Gabriel and I had history next and Frank and Aiden had art or something I wasn’t quite sure.
Gabriel and I took our usual seats at the back of the class and waited for it to begin. I sat there thinking back to lunch and then last night when we heard the growls, I wanted to ask Gabriel but didn’t know if it would sound stalkerish or not
“Mikey do you want to ask me something?” he asked, I turned to look at him he was staring at my face like he was analysing it, it made me feel kind of naked and then he stopped
“Yeah um… I was wondering… is everything okay at your house?” I asked once I said it, it sounded really stalkerish
“Yes why do you ask Mikey?” he questioned, I’ve noticed every time he asks anyone a question he always says his or her name it’s so old fashioned, I like it.
“Oh it’s nothing. It’s just that Frank and I heard shouting, well not really more like growling, like Aiden at lunch and I was just wondering, but it doesn’t matter” I shrugged it off, if he said everything was fine then I guess it was.
“Oh that didn’t know I was so loud” he said, I would’ve never believed that it was him,
“That was you” I exclaimed too loudly, the teacher looked up at me from his desk. Gabriel laughed
“Yes, Aiden was being troublesome and Frank thought she couldn’t be” Gabriel laughed it off; I couldn’t believe Gabriel had made that low growl. I didn’t quite believe him but there was no hint in his eyes to tell he was lying so I guess he wasn’t, but that growl did not seem like something that would come out if someone was annoying you, it was more of a ‘stop before you hurt someone’ growl but he didn’t give me any reason not to believe him.
