“I just can’t believe it.” Tears swelled up in my mother’s giant green eyes. I had those same eyes; I’d always assumed I got them from my grandmother.
She acted like it was some horrible circumstance that kept us apart for fourteen years; that it wasn’t her fault that she left my dad and I.
“You’re beautiful, Sadie. You’ve grown so much.” She continued.
What, did you think I’d stay two years old forever? I thought, but, instead of saying this, I simply nodded my head.
Diane had booked it, the second my luggage was out of her car.
“I can’t wait to hang out with you this summer! We’ll get to know each other again.” She smiled hugely.
“When have you ever known me?” I asked coldly, crossing my arms. We stood on the sidewalk in front of my mother’s house.
“Please, don’t be like this.” She swallowed.
“I’m going to go explore, alright?” Not waiting for a response, I turned on my heel, a tear slipping down my cheek.
